I enjoyed the whole Lemnoy Snicket series. Book 8 and 9 were exciting but less enjoyable to me simply because they have an odd feel to them, especially the carnivorous carneval.
Book 1-4 were good, but for me the excitement begins with book five which really starts to unfold the mysteries of the baudelaires; the best parts of the SoUE are books 6,7, 10, 11 and 12.
