Editorial Review:
Stromsoe was in high school when he met the boy who would someday murder his wife and son . . . Once Matt Stromsoe was best friends with brilliant, unpredictable Mike Tavarez. That was before Stromsoe joined the San Diego P.D. and Mike left Harvard to run La Eme, the brutal Mexican Mafia; before a vengeance-obsessed Tavarez blew away everything Stromsoe loved, leaving him physically and emotionally broken. Years later, Mike Tavarez is in prison for life, controlling his vast criminal empire from within a maximum security facility. Matt Stromsoe has rebounded from rock bottom to become a private investigator—and he's starting to feel something for Frankie Hatfield, the beautiful local TV weather forecaster he's been hired to protect from a stalker. But powerful, dangerous people are becoming too interested in Frankie's remarkable experiments with rain. And bars alone won't keep Tavarez from his ultimate goal: to make Matt Stromsoe suffer the unendurable torment of losing everything . . . again.

Rating: - Storm Runners
Another solid effort. I enjoy Parker's Southern California style. There's always a deep human element within his storylines. Rain enhancement/revenge are the main plotlines here, but the actual storytelling is first rate, as usual.
Rating: - In between
This book is about a man named Matt Stromsoe who has lost everything in the blink of an eye. His wife and child are killed in an explosion that was meant to kill Stromsoe. The killer was an old friend turned enemy named Mike Tavarez. After Stromsoe cleans himself up and begins to work again, he is hired to guard a weatherwomen. This is were the plot gets a little unusual for me. The weatherwomen and her uncle have a secret formula to make rain. One of the local utility companies is trying to ... Read More
Rating: - (1) T Jefferson Parker is a great writer (2) this book is terrible
Parker has always been a writer who works well as an understated artist. His characters and plots have always been at the very least somewhat probable. His prose has been minimal and concise. For some reason Parker takes a left turn here with Storm Runners and its a disaster. I felt like I was reading one of James Patterson's more outlandish thrillers.
First of all, the premise of this story hinges on two very... very very unbelievable plot lines. The worst is that this lady, Frankie, ... Read More
Rating: - Can't lose with Parker
For years, T. Jefferson Parker has written crime novels that took place in Orange County, California. Of late, he's moved a bit south to the San Diego area. It makes no real difference: he continues to write really good books regardless of the locale.
Storm Runners occurs in a number of sites, most prominently the community of Fallbrook outside San Diego. It's there that Frankie Hatfield, local weather girl is being stalked. Matt Stromsoe, an ex-cop turned private eye, is hired to ... Read More
Rating: - Control of weather mystery
Matt Stromsoe and Mike Tavarez were the best of friends in high school. They marched in the band at the same time although Stromsoe was the Drum Major in their late years of school. Both boys loved Hallie, but Mike ended up winning her in marriage, which disappointed Matt. Mike was always into gangs in school and afterwards. Matt became a cop. Little did Matt know that his future included a marriage to Hallie after Tavarez had beaten and abused her during their married years. And, also unknown ... Read More
