Leslie McHugh is married to an undercover cop. She thinks she knows what it’s like to share her life with a man who spends his days living a lie, who keeps secrets for a living, who trusts no one, not even her. She can see the pressure, the fear, the pent-up rage, and, worst of all, the distance growing between them that Craig promised he’d never allow. But what does she really know? Lonely, tired, and starting to drink too much, she knows that their marriage is on the rocks because her husband lives a second life she knows almost nothing about. When a thousand dollars disappears from their bank account, she wants answers, but before she can even ask the questions, their seventeen-year-old daughter, a real cop’s kid already on a collision course with trouble, turns up at the center of Craig’s investigation into a snitch’s violent death. Leslie’s had enough; she’s determined to get to the truth and protect her family---no matter what the cost.Again and again, Edgar Award winner Theresa Schwegel shows a remarkable ability to get inside a cop’s world---both at the precinct house and at home---making Person of Interest some of the most compelling crime fiction in bookstores today.

Rating: out of 5 stars - A Review for the Author
I just finished Officer Down (winner of the Edgar for best first mystery) and Probable Cause Schwegel's second cop procedural. I just came on to Amazon to purchase her third novel, Person of Interest when I saw a few negative reviews. Now, anyone can write a turkey (Robert Parker's Spencer novels are all over the place in terms of quality and Dennis Lehane never got it right after the early works...Gone Baby Gone, A Drink Before Dying etc....it falls apart for me with Mystic River on) but rarely ... Rating: out of 5 stars - Schweigel
Didn't read it. Her other book, 'Officer Down' was so bad, I gave this one away.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Inflated Expectations
I think the problem I had with this book is that the critical reviews I read promised way too much. Four stars? Really? Then what do you do when you are rating someone who is a truly great writer, even in this somewhat pedestrian genre? This is a garden-variety police story, not nearly as good as those by Michael Connelly, and I wouldn't begin to make a comparison with a writer like Elmore Leonard. It is not a bad book, just not a particularly good book, and not worth wasting one's limited ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Bravo Lee Child
Lee Child is mentioned by the author in her acknowledgments. Unfortunately for Ms. Schwegel, meeting Mr. Child does not make one a better writer. Any book which features, even briefly, a character dubbed Vomit Girl is not worth reading.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Person of Interest
Theresa Schwegel is the best contemporary mystery writer today. "Person of Interest" is another super example of this writer"s ability.
