Editorial Review:
Few writers have earned a place in readers' hearts as dear as Eugenie Price. Her novels entice us into a vanished world, peopled by characters who immediacy makes their joy, sorrow, heartbreak, and soaring love something we can share and savor. Eugenia Price chose Savannah, Georgia as one of the most fascinating cities of the South, as the setting of a quartet of novels that follow the fortunes of the city and families that gave it life.Orphaned Mark Browning was only twenty when he renounced his father's fortune and sailed to Savannah, his mother's birthplace...and the home of two remarkable women. The first is Eliza McQueen Mackay, his mentor's beautiful wife, whom Mark loves with a deep, pure love that can never be spoken. The other is lovely young Caroline Cameron, whose life is blighted by a secret that has tormented her grandparents for half a century--a secret that affects Mark more closely than he imagines. Desiring one woman, loved by another Mark must confront the ghosts of a previous generation, and face the evil smoldering hate, before he can truly call Savannah his home.

Rating: - Loved It!!!
Ths is a GREAT book. It really takes you back to the 1800s, and what life was like for the elitists of the day. I loved Mark Browning. Although, I have to say that Caroline is right for that day and age. She would never wait around for a man like that in the modern world. I liked being reminded that things like the telephone and electricity hadn't been invented. Let alone a firehouse! What we take for granted in modern times! Again, very good story. Eugenia Price is in her own class with this one. ... Read More
Rating: - SAVANNAH
Since I am from the South (New Orleans) I always love reading historical novels about that part of the country. And since I've spent time in Savannah I was looking forward to reading this book. I enjoyed it very much. Eugenia Price certainly knows her history and that part of the country. She brings the beautiful city of Savannah to life and the characters in her story are very believable.

Rating: - Savannah "historical fiction"
A must for anyone visiting Savannah! Oglethorpe's city of squares still maintains its charm, and Eugenia Price is remembered fondly by Savannahians. She weaves a tale that resembles a soap opera. Historical figures interact with fictional characters, and the reader does not want to separate fact from fiction.
Rating: - OK, but not great
I found this to be a somewhat interesting book, but I kept thinking she was writing it to be a mini-series, not a novel. It feels as if it is an outline for a more interesting story, not the actual story. It did not suspend disbelief and I found myself thinking,"that was a good set-up for the sequel" instead of "I hope there will be a sequel."
Rating: - Enjoying Miss Eliza, yet again.
I just completed reading Savannah, for the second time. I read it many years ago and loved it then. Recently I was reading Stranger in Savannah and felt I had to go buy Savannah so I could see Mark as a young man again. I find Ms. Price's historical novels educational and entertaining. Savannah, as the Saint Simon's Trilogys, make the reader anxious for the next book about the Mackay and Browning families. The book is well written, historically accurate, and a great read. As with every Price book I've ... Read More
