No bargain as enticing as...
When Emma Fitzgerald storms the manor home of the new Viscount Wakefield, she feels more than justified fury. Having just inadvertently witnessed his lordship in scandalous dishabille with his London mistress, her blood pounds with outrage...and with a thrill she has never felt. She has come to demand better treatment for his tenants, to seek some compassion, a shred of decency from this dastardly rake whose reputation for sin and debauchery precedes him. Now, the erotic image of his powerful flesh only heightens her determination to make this wicked rogue accountable for his actions...One sealed with a kiss...
Certainly no woman has ever dared to take John Clayton to task as though he is a naughty schoolboy, and no woman, especially one as enticing as Emma, ever has refused to be baited by his bold, assessing gaze. Instead she seems to look beneath his skin to see more than a scandalous rake. But this prim and proper Vicar's daughter leaves him speechless when she proposes a bargain worthy of his own insolence. In return for his kindness to others, she offers herself. Vowing to regain the upper hand, John brazenly sets out to introduce Emma into the art of love-heedless of the consequences to his own heart...

Rating: out of 5 stars - This was my 1st Cheryl Holt novel
I loved it and the characters were totally engaging to this first time Holt reader. In fact, it's high on my list of "Read Agains" and I've re-read it four (4) more times.

The premise of this whole storyline was naughty and sexy. Although, I'm really, really tired of female characters who are virgins or frigid until they meet their man, I liked the way that Emma was a lusty soul in spite of being a vicar's daughter. Her nursing experiences gave her an insight into a man's "carnal" ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Lots of Sex, No Soul In This "Love" Story...
The beginning of this book was VERY promising.. it had moments where I actually laughed out loud and couldn't wait to get into it.... then as story slowly unfolded, it just went downhill... to fall further down, where I just ended up spending the whole time frowning.... and I had to force myself to actually finish.

The hero is just unlikeable, in fact, he never redeemed himself in my eye. I couldnt see WHY the heroine was so in love with him. Then we have the heroine who in the beginning ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Utterly Decadent
Cheryl Holt writes Regency Romance like no other author bordering on the erotic side at times but making it fun. When several elderly and disadvantaged tenants receive eviction notices, the daughter of the community's former vicar, Emma Fitzgerald barges into Viscount John Clayton's home and demands that he cancel the evictions. John is known for his scandalous behavior, but he has never been chastised like this before. When he makes a scandalous proposal to Emma, that he cancel the evictions in exchange ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Ashamed of myself for reading this...
I'll admit that I usually like my romance novels to be steamy. I felt the sex scenes in this book however were positively vulgar in some ways. It almost felt the sexual encounters were written by a man, no emotional connections, just the man telling the woman what to do to please him. If you want ROMANCE and not just sex then I suggest you read something by Julia Quinn or Laura Kinsale. I thought maybe it was just one poorly written book, so I read two others by the same author and couldn't finish either ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Completely redeeming
There are books aplenty on rakes and hoydens. John the hero is one of those, oh so wealthy, sexy as hell, bored with life, has tons of money and yet is completely clueless of the plight of others. In comes the vivacious, slightly spinsterish, mouthy heroine Emma. She is the first to rattle him off his comfort zone and tell it to him like it is.

The opening chapter of the book is funny, and wonderful. I wish I could see John's expression when Emma agreed to his indecent proposal. I am glad to note ... Read More
