Editorial Review:
The story of an alienated alienBeegu’s spacecraft is stranded on Earth. Now she is lost and wandering. Waiting for a rescue signal from her mother, she fails to make friends with the strange creatures she encounters. Rabbits don't seem to understand her; windblown leaves won’t stay still to listen. But at last, on a school playground, Beegu discovers a group of fantastic companions who are happy to let her join their games . . . until a grownup creature spoils the fun.Beegu's spirits are sinking lower than ever just as the mother ship arrives, in this simple, bittersweet picture book that shows us our world through the three eyes of an innocent outsider with the help of stylish art and a wry, understated text.

Rating: - Sweet Story
My two little boys love this book, especially my 6 year old. It's fun to read and the illustrations are wonderful. Beegu stands out among a backdrop of neutral colors. The page where Beegu wants a passerby on the street to pick her up is one of the saddest parts of the book. My son was very relieved that everything turns out okay for Beegu in the end.
Rating: - Lovely Bedtime story
First I'd like to say that Alexis Deacon's illustrations are truly original I have never found an extraterrestrial so adorable and her depictions of people have this kind of 80's comic stip feel its surprisingly a breathe of fresh air as is the subject matter! I'm not one for introducing supernatural topics to toddlers but this doesn't give off a creepy feel its actually enchanting! If you have ever found yourself feeling lost, abandoned , confused this will touch your heart. I simply love the ... Read More
Rating: - Small story, big message.
A delightful, touching story that is a favorite in our household. Anything by Alexis Deacon is always a joy to discover, but this gem in particular is an instant classic.
Rating: - A firm family favourite
My 3 year-old demands Beegu at bedtime most nights. It's a simple and heartwarming story, but what makes it stand out is the superb quality of the illustration. The subdued palette and the deft drawing is far superior to the run-of-the-mill children's book artwork. I also love the way Beegu is ignored, overlooked, rejected by all the adults - appealing to a child's sense that only the small people can see and appreciate the otherworldly. I think Beegu's experience stranded on earth shows rather nicely ... Read More
Rating: - Beautiful and haunting
This story haunted me after reading it to my preschool students. If you have ever felt lost and unloved, you will relate to this moving story of a small alien stranded on an unfriendly world. However, Beegu has hope for the "small ones" on Earth. This is a great story for creating empathy in children for those who are different. If you are a parent or teacher with Beegu's faith in the small ones, you should read this book to the small ones in your life.Would you be Beegu's friend? I hope so!
