Despite the rather awful cover, this story's only major failing is that it isn't longer. The heroine, Sham, is a noblewoman and mage who has ended up in the slums making a living as a thief after her country is conquered. She is recruited by a Lord, Kerim, of the new regime to help with the mystery of the murders happening at the castle. I love this author. This was such a wonderful book. Lots of mystery, and action and romance. She makes you really get involved with the characters in her books. I did not want to put the book down until I finished it and then wanted more.

Was not the cover I expected when I recieved it. I was expecting the illistrated cover as on the website. I purchased this because it is a very good book and wanted it for my personal library.

I picked this book up despite the repackaged cover with the blonde vixen on the front. It didn't look like a good fantasy/magic story, but it was written by Patricia Briggs, so I figured the only 2-d thing about it would be the cover.
I was right.
Though I wouldn't put this up with Dragon bones/blood or the Mercy Thompson series for complexity of character or story, it was a good story. Not as compelling as the others, either, but again, good.
