Rating: - Not worth the money just for the historical perspective
The first of the two stories is amusing in its humor and interesting from an historical point of view. As soon as the reader gets past the first chapter you start to notice subtle incongruencies, this because the original story was written in 1959. It offers some insights into what was considered to be acceptable and normal at the time in Sci-FI as a genre and in America as a whole. Anderson represents the old Amazon's myth and builds a classical fantasy novel,with battles,blood and angry women.Good reading,but not necessary

Wouldn't you want to land on a planet where everyone is female? Well, that is what our hero gets to do. He has plenty of problems once he gets there though. Apparently a colony ship with an all-female complement went off course and landed on an uncharted planet. (A feature of this line of Anderson stories is the "trepidation vortex" which can do just that.) The ship's doctor developed a method of cloning the women thus creating a population of identical copies from maybe 50 individuals. ... Read More
