Editorial Review:
Cheeky, original, and decidedly practical to boot, Sin Boldly! is unlike any other writing handbook available. Jammed with sage advice, genuine encouragement, and surprising examples (of how to write and how not to write), this book gives beginning writers and confident students alike an easy-to-follow roadmap for improving one of the most important skills for success. En route to Sin Boldly!-induced, A+ paper bliss, readers encounter such topics as· Choosing a Topic and Telling Your Story ("K.I.S.S.-Keep It Simple, Stupid")· Literary Games (featuring "Francobabble for Freshman")· Choosing a Voice ("Dissing the Prof")· Grammatical Horrors ("A does not equal they")· Common Mistakes ("Hopefully and Other Controversies")Fully revised and updated with new examples, quizzes, and tips, Sin Boldly! is not only a comprehensive guide, but also a fantastic, fun read for anyone who wants to write clearly and effectively .

Rating: - "Personal, perceptive, and purposefully provocative...goes where no other ... handbook has dared go before."
My favorite part of this book was an actual student paper that David Williams used as an example: "Women are Like Boxcars: A study of the Cinderella myth. ... They are just writing around waiting to get hitched."
Here's what Dr. Williams (And this Dr. comes from a Ph.D. from Harvard no less) says about this paper:
"The paper reproduced in this section is a real one. That is to say, it was written not by me--I swear!--but by a student in one of my college composition classes. ... Read More
Rating: - Brilliant
This book is more than a writing guide! It should be required for everyone teaching or studying at college level. I picked this item up by accident and have recommended it to many. Dr. Dave's sense of humour and social commentary makes it all the more fun to read.
Rating: - It is definitely bold... and interesting
I found this book very useful since it helped me make my arguments stronger. Humorous and an enjoyable read.
Rating: - Don't judge a book by its content.
This is a potentially useful book to the student writer who discovers it on his own and therefore has no reason not to buy into its solid, commonsensical advice. There's nothing new here--Strunk&White directives, concisely expressed tips about brainstorming and revising, admonitions about cliched language and ignoring the conventions of grammar, punctuation and citation form. The strength of the book is the author's personal voice, logical reasoning disguised as irreverent defiance of the academic establishment, ... Read More
Rating: - Long Overdue
This book is a godsend for people who have either forgotten how to write or who are now being forced to write correctly. I recommended it to doctoral students who have been in business for so long that they can only compose memos or email. Hidden within its witty pages are the answers to such secrets as: 1) its or it's? 2) commas--are they just sentence jewelry? and 3) where do I put the punctuation -- inside the quotes or outside? Run, do not walk, to purchase this invaluable writer's best friend.
