Rating: - Strength of Character
I saw this book at the library, cover facing out, very dark and mysterious, perhaps giving a hint of the power of the machines described inside. So I picked it up and was gradually sucked into the arena of conflict as I was into the intake fans! But what kept me onboard with this one was the amazingly strong and detailed supporting cast, characters who I could root for. That is very important in any read and supports our imagination. I was even rooting for the antagonist in the novel as we got ... Read More
Rating: - A slight disappointment...
As an avid reader of Amanda Garretts previous sorties I found this too be somewhat lacking. Or perhaps it had that little bit too much. The long-winded telling of the backstory, which although necessary given the relative obscurity of the area, seemed to me to take away from the book more than to add to it. If they had been slightly briefer this book would be up there with the first two, and now Target Lock, as it is it doesn't quite make it. It is an enjoyable read, but I do miss the Duke, but many ... Rating: - Another Great Ready by James H. Cobb!!
Camped on shore while the Cunningham under goes repair from the battle damaged gathered in "Sea Strike," Amanda Garret is given a new and dangerous challenge. The Ivory Coast of Africa is on fire once again as a man with a vision for the future takes matters into his own hands. He is a man who wants to help the people of Africa but he at the same time wants to do so through the conquest of multiple countries. The UN decides to step in to do something about it. America's answer to that call is the Sea ... Read More
Rating: - Can't get enough of Cobb!
I've read every installment of Cobb's "Amanda Garrett" series and I find them incredibly fascinating, engaging, and I can't wait to see a movie based on one of these! For the woman who loves combat and/or action genre, his books have all of that AND a fantastic female role model! I believe Sea Strike to be the best so far. Great dialogue -- variety of colorful characters -- and a very realistic, unpredictable plot.
Rating: - Amanda's a fightin' man's fantasy!
I enjoyed Sea Fighter less than Cobb's earlier two. Perhaps I was more comfortable with Amanda Lee Garrett as a brilliant ship's captain, rather than a fighting super-seal cum broad battle strategist(no pun intended!).Cobb has developed her character nicely(she's very believable now) but in this latest novel he seems to try too hard to present her as an admiral in development. But lots of riveting pages to read here for a military-novel buff!
