Insight, explanations, and practical solutions for overcoming insecurity and sensitivity -- from a top psychologist
In simple language, Joseph Nowinski explains that insecurity is not a flaw or shortcoming, but rather a personality trait that reflects both temperament and life experiences. And, most important, he shows how insecurity can be conquered so that one can thrive -- especially in work and love.
The first book to investigate insecurity, The Tender Heart sheds light on its common causes and provides guidelines for overcoming the self-doubt, debilitating self-consciousness, and chronic lack of confidence that prevent many people from enjoying life to its fullest. Combining personality quizzes and case histories of people who have conquered their insecurities, The Tender Heart offers expert advice on:

  • Healing insecurity
  • Avoiding emotional predators who seek out sensitive people
  • Coping with a tough-hearted partner or colleague
  • Finding your emotional mate
  • Raising children who are self-confident

Rating: out of 5 stars - A starting point to find insecurity within yourself
I've read the other reviews claiming this book doesn't live up to expectations. Whilst I agree in some ways, and did find it often repetitive, I personally got a lot out of it. By taking the time to reflect after each chapter on how it applied to my life I was able to better process this. A big part of me wanted to jump straight to solution mode but by working through my own "stuff" and looking back on my childhood etc I was able to better understand my own insecurities. After that I basically came ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Very helpful .
I agree that the author does not provide specifics on solving the problem of insecurity. However, I don't think that was his purpose in this book. He focuses on providing an understanding of the tenderhearted personality type. The information was very helpful to me, opening my eyes up to aspects of this issue that I had not considered previously. I learned a lot from this book.

Rating: out of 5 stars - The Tender Heart: Conquering your Insecurity
It was the best book I have read on the subject. My husband read it as well. Really explained a lot--it was like a light bulb went off. Excellent! I even bought another copy for my son.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Conquering your Insecurities...title is VERY misleading!
This book did have a great start... I was flipping through the pages reading, and I was left with a one page- "how to"... I thought that this whole book was to HELP you conquer your insecurities, not just give you a quick little "over-view" of what you're SUPPOSED to be doing...
The title is misleading, and I definently wouldn't recommend this self-help book to anyone!

Rating: out of 5 stars - Subtitle inacurate
Yes - this book did have a great start... I was flipping through the pages reading each one carefully waiting to see where the author gets to the "conquering your insecurites"... I was left with a one page- three step recipe to acomplish what the book claims. The title is misleading... maybe it was done so purposefully to write part II?
