Rating: out of 5 stars - For real
Whitley Streiber's book on the best possible interpretation of the werewolf myth is scary. I say this as one who read it as an adult. I lent it to friend, an engineer with an engineer's imagination (slight) who later confessed the book had made him apprehensive about going into the basement, or an unlighted room.

The closest I'd ever come to fearing the fictional before that was the Beast Things in Andre Norton's "Daybreak 2250 AD", a juvenile scifi.

This is good.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Not Free SF Reader
Another supernatural cop story. The Wolfen are not your standard
werewolves, but actually a separate species of highly evolved
humanocanoids, therefore they are highly intelligent. Still hang out in
packs, etc., and are not tool users, but have super canine senses and
speed. This could easily have been a Witchblade story, touch female cop,
annoying partner - the old crusty variety, not the young clueless
surfer dude type here, though. Shockingly, said partner ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - The Wolfen - an exciting, scary, and scientific take on Werewolf legends
The Wolfen is an exciting, fast-paced novel that gives a unique and intriguing scientific take on the legend of the werewolf. Two of the best detectives in New York, George Wilson and Becky Neff, are stumped for the first time ever when they investigate the horrific, savage killing of two police officers. Strangely, the officers seem to have been killed by animals - and the evidence points to some fearsome animal that science doesn't know about - how can this be? Especially right in the Big City? ... Rating: out of 5 stars - One of Strieber's Best
Strieber's WOLFEN is about a race of highly intelligent canines who have evolved alongside Humanity. Living on the fringes of our communities, preying upon our social flotsam and jetsam (the outcasts, the loners, the deviants), the Wolfen are the basis for all of Man's shape-shifting myths and legends. Strieber portrays this species as neither supernatural or essentially evil, but rather as another highly developed species that has learned to compete with and survive amongst a much more numerous and ... Rating: out of 5 stars - Original Look a the Werewolf Legend...
Years after it was originally written, this is still the most unique view of the werewolf legend, that I have ever come across, and I have read many. The uniqueness and fast plot, make this a very quick read. Some of the relationships between the actual people were a little weak, but the pull of the story completely compensates. If you are looking for something different, you need to read this book.
