If you don't know the difference between a lob wedge and a lemon wedge, check out Golf for Dummies, by CBS commentator Gary McCord, one of the game's most colorful--and knowledgeable--characters. It's a wonderful, often hilarious, never boring introduction to the game. Don't let the foreword by Kevin Costner or the afterword by Hootie and the Blowfish confuse the issue; this is a terrifically sound, easy-to-follow primer. McCord's potato-chip drill--yes, potato-chip drill--will revolutionize your swing, and your thinking, with overtones that could spill directly into off-the-course existence, as well.
Golf is a simple game. You have a bunch of clubs and a ball. You have to hit the ball with a club into a series of holes laid out in the middle of a large, grassy field. As simple as it is, many people believe golf is the hardest game in the world. If you’re like most golfers, you play the sport for fun, relaxation, and a chance to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. If you’re like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, or Tiger Woods, you get to do all that – and make a gazillion dollars to boot!
Golf for Dummies, 2nd Edition, is a valuable tool for men and women of all ages who want to know more about golf or improve their game. Whether you’re new to golf or a long-time duffer, this updated version of the bestselling guide will get you into the swing of things by helping you to:
  • Master grip, stance, and swing
  • Fix common faults
  • Improve your putting
  • Know the score on rules and etiquette
  • Take advantage of high-tech equipment
  • Shape up with golf-specific exercises

Discover how to take strokes off your game by improving the technique of your swing with step-by-step photos. Then master the all important putt to even better your score. Golf For Dummies, 2nd Edition, also covers the following topics and more:
  • How to choose your golf balls and clubs
  • Getting and staying in golf shape
  • Getting the most from your lessons
  • Where to play and who to play with
  • Developing your own swing
  • Putting, chipping, and pitching
  • Special shots, conditions, and considerations

Author and CBS television golf analyst Gary McCord is a PGA Senior Tour champion and a golf instructor to many celebrities.
The bestselling golf primer nearly 750,000 copies sold in previous editions now revised with 20 percent new and updated content There are 26.2 million golfers in the U.S., but despite the recent proliferation of high-performance balls, drivers, and putters, the average golf score remains at about 100, the same as it has for years. With his matchless teaching skills and great sense of humor, Gary McCord has helped countless new golfers and old duffers beat this trend and shave strokes off their games. Illustrated throughout with instructional photos, Golf For Dummies is packed with tips, tricks, and techniques to help people master golf basics, correct faults, and boost distance and accuracy. And now his bestselling guide is even better. McCord has thoroughly revised the book with new tips on how to adjust grips, stances, and swings as well as improved workouts to help players stay in shape for the game. There are new pointers from top players, expanded advice on the short game, an evaluation of the latest golf gear, a rundown of great new courses, an overview of today's best golf resources and Web sites, and an updated look at golf's greatest moments and players. For any player who wants a better score and more fun on the links, this guide can't be beat! Rating: out of 5 stars - Golf for Gary McCord and his Editors

"Golf for Dummies" 3rd Edition is a weak attempt by a Professional (Gary McCord) to help beginners find their way around playing golf. For the most part, I found this book traveling the ranges of advanced play to intermediate play, to history of golf, to various professional courses and to techniques in how Gary made it into professional golf world. That seems good for those who do not want to play golf. But for me, I found the reading quite challenging. Gary missed making a smooth transition ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Great book for explaining the fundamentals
This is a great book that explains the fundamentals. It has been my experience that most golf problems are due to lack of understanding the fundamentals.
I have been golfing for years and found it to be a great review.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Golf for dummies (Miniature edition
Was surprised to see a miniature edition book arrive.Stick with Golf for Dummies video..Book was disappointing.Donna

Rating: out of 5 stars - Useful Info for beginner and intermediate golfer alike
From a novice golfer: This book was well-written and covers many of the technical fundamentals of the game. I found that the descriptions of the techniques, as well as the exercises to improve your stance or physical ability, was just as helpful as the explanation of the finer points of playing the game. I was going to read it cover-to-cover, but ended up skipping the majority of "The Part of Tens" which covers such things as the author's ten favorite private and public golf courses, and the ten favorite ... Rating: out of 5 stars - Worth it
Read this book in conjunction with the golf book for dummies on etiquette. Both worth the read, though you cannot learn to play golf with either book. It will however, get you into the culture, become aware of how to approach the game and avoid many pitfalls.
