Editorial Review:
Essentials of General Surgery, Fourth Edition is extensively revised with an abundance of new tables and illustrations, to provide the most current and up-to-date information on general surgery. The book covers the most need-to-know information about specific diseases and areas of surgery and meets all the guidelines of the Association of Surgical Educators. Additional features include an atlas of images, multiple-choice questions, and case studies.

Rating: - Solid
This book can be read in a short time and give sufficient knowledge base for surgery clerkship. With that said, I did not like the format of the book as I felt it was too bland. This could be however a result of all the high yeild/bullet format books out on the market that I might be used to. I recommend reading only a select chapters in this book.
Rating: - Too much to read.
This book is so long and wordy, It's a great reference for surgical topics, but so hard to read. It is not a good review book, and i would say not a book to read during your rotation in surgery since you probably wouldn't have enough free time to read the entire thing. It is a good book, don't get me wrong, but I find it's too much for 3rd yr rotation material.
Rating: - Good Book
Good book for introductory purposes. It describes many procedures and gives you a good basis for understanding. Not a good book for actually learning how to do a surgery!
Rating: - Good, not excellent buy!
The book, although in general terms is well organized and practical, doesn't cover general topics like urology or thoracic surgery, which i belive to be "Essentials to General Surgery." Still, i benefited from it a lot, so i would recommed it.

Students are often asked about anatomy relevant to the procedure at hand but some of the questioning from attendings has to do with the procedure itself. The section at the end on surgical procedures helps orient you to some of the most common cases seen on a general surgery rotation. It is in your best ... Read More
