Go 'behind the sails' on an intergalactic treasure hunt in this thrilling new animated space adventure by Walt Disney Pictures. A futuristic twist on one of the greatest adventure stories ever told, Treasure Planet follows Jim Hawkins's fantastic journey across a parallel universe aboard a glittering space galleon. But great dangers lie ahead when Jim discovers that his trusted mentor, the cyborg cook John Silver, is actually a scheming pirate with mutiny on his mind. Legends of pirate treasure and pirate terror, the lore of literary pirates, and a look at the loot of a thousand worlds are all featured in this richly illustrated volume that will be treasured by buccaneers of all ages. Discover the film's evolution and the development of its characters, weaponry, and technology, as well as exploring the interesting histories of actual pirates who sailed the seven seas. Part techno-log, part field guide, this book is brimming with diagrams, gadgets and gizmos, fun facts, and fascinating anecdotes. Jeff Kurtti is the author of numerous books about Disney animated features, including A Bug's Life: The Art and Making of an Epic of Miniature Proportions and Atlantis Subterranean Tours: A Traveler's Guide to the Lost City.

Rating: out of 5 stars - AN UNDERRATED MOVIE, AN UNSUNG CLASSIC
I bought this book because I wanted to see some of the artwork that was part of a movie that my teacher from Art Center worked on. Yes, I must confess, I have never seen the movie, but bought it because I love collecting books on art and animation.
I have to agree with a previous review that pointed out that this book should have come out in hardcover format. It is too bad that Disney ignored it, and cut out on advertising, because the artwork is truly a treat. Nonetheless, I'm glad to include ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Should be available in HARDCOVER format
The book's overview of the movie is excellent, but Disney fans deserve a more durable chronicle (i.e., hardcover) of the film! Likewise, there was no hardcover tome of "Lilo & Stitch", much to the displeasure of many hardcore Disney fans (including myself).
The upcoming Disney/Pixar film, "Finding Nemo", has a companion book that is a quality sewn hardcover. Why doesn't Disney itself insist on such top-quality books for _all_ films produced under its own (exclusive) label?

Rating: out of 5 stars - An amazing look into the world of Treasure Planet
I already loved the movie, so I was exstatic to purchase this book. It helped me learn more in-depth into the characters and their backgrounds. It was also funny to see the character development pics. They looked so bizzare. All in all, the high price is worth it. I am so glad that I bought this book!

Rating: out of 5 stars - Not only a great coffe table, also a "before slumber" book
This sort of new type of "Behind the Scenes" and "The Art of" books created lately by disney is great. The price is more than just right. The quality of the form is awesome: great pictures, quality of the paper... and the content is very good also: a real close up look at the process of making the film. Also, a very interesting analysis of the virtual world created by Disney for this film. When I saw the movie I simply enjoyed it. Now that the video-dvd is comming out, I can't wait ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Delightful piece for any fan or collector
I thorougly enjoyed the movie "Treasure Planet" for the art as much as the story. It really was one of Disney's most beautiful films.
That's why I enjoyed this book so much. It gives an in-depth look at the art, the style, the making, etc. Each character is discussed with their background. Best of all, there are amazing pictures--sketch, rough-draft, final--that are absolutely georgous.
This book is a great look into the movie. If you loved "Treasure Planet", you will ... Read More
