Editorial Review: Not just for policy wonks, this is a book every responsible citizen should own. The Almanac of American Politics contains more up-to-date information about the American political process than any other publication, including profiles and voting records of all 535 members of Congress and the governors of every state. You'll also find informative essays about past political history and future trends across the United States, as well as maps of voting districts, census statistics, and more. (Just in case the listings get you inspired, the almanac provides contact information for all the politicians profiled, including postal and e-mail addresses.) The Almanac of American Politics provides all the information anyone needs to get involved in the political process.
Day after day and year after year, the most consulted, respected, and influential book in Washington. "That Washington bible, packed with detail about national and state politics...is a legendary stand-by." -- The Economist "The single best reference there is for Congress and Washington specifically and the country generally." -- Jim Lehrer, The News Hour "Indispensable...If politics is the art of the possible, this compendium of statistics and information has gone as far as humanly possible." -- The Washington Post "Fun reading...The Almanac of American Politics knows every detail of this country's political landscape and in the process includes enough odd facts to satisfy any trivia buff." -- Bryant Gumbel "Michael Barone is to politics what statistician-writer Bill James is to baseball, a mix of historian, social observer, and numbers cruncher who illuminates his subject with perspective and a touch of irreverence." -- Chicago Tribune

This book is a staple of research inside the "beltway" of Washington D.C. and is priced by the standards of reference books sold there. The price can cause "sticker shock" for those of us located outside the beltway. Nonetheless, it is an invaluable research ... Read More
