Editorial Review: In this book John Michael Greer turns his attention to the intellectual underpinnings and superstructures of the Pagan and magical movements. Pagan religions have tended to be more concerned with practice that with theory and in a system that has no dogma - no legislated doctrine - that is as it should be. Yet as out movement grows and matures, it is inevitable that we will begin to think in a more abstract way about our models and systems. John Michael Greer has provided a primer on the kinds of ideas and themes that must be included in any discussion of the theology and philosophy of Neo-pagan religions.

Rating: - Preaching to the Choir.
A typical example of a book written for people who already agree with him, Greer warns monotheists in the opening chapter that they might not like some of what he has to say (the implication being that no one likes to face the "hard truth" about beliefs that are dear to them). As a monotheist myself, I have to admit, he's right, but not for the reasons he suggests; rather, his understanding of monotheism is simplistic, even shallow. He often treats monotheism as bizarrely monolithic and homogeneous, ... Read More
Rating: - Where's the magic?
I am in complete agreement with other reviewers regarding the excellence of this book. It strikes me as a strange, however, that Greer makes no mention whatsoever of the topic of magic, despite the importance of this subject within Paganism, and the fact, noted on the back cover, that he is well-versed in Pagan practices of magic. Considering the insightfulness with which he treats the other topics covered in his book, I would have welcomed his comments on this subject, particularly with regard to ... Read More

A World Full of Gods by John Michael Greer is exploration into the colorful and deeply misunderstood world of contemporary polytheism. The volume is divided into thirteen carefully researched chapters spanning nearly every conceivable angle of polytheistic spirituality. Each chapter contains a variety of examples from various cultures as well as analogies to help the reader understand polytheistic concepts.
The book begins with a history and explanation ... Read More
Rating: - Positive Polytheism
For those who are polythestic or those who are curious about polytheism, this is a must-read. Monothestics should read it as well. Mr. Greer gives excellent and compelling arguements that polytheism is a viable, credible system of spirituality. He also shows along the way some major flaws in the monothestic type of worship. His book is straight-forward and easy to understand. It's a no-nonsense, well-researched and fascinating book.
Rating: - Best Book for Arguing the Polytheistic Natural World Concept
There are many worthy reviews posted here. The idea of a single deity concept is narrow-minded and unnatural. Many Christian people believe that polytheism is satanic or atheistic.I simply would add that these fool-hardy monotheists should question their opinions about 'a Supreme Being' belief system,by reading this book first. If God is a Man,did he impregnate a Female Void,in order to create the Universe, hence creating Us in his own image?
