Christians who have longed for a more readable literal Bible translation will find much to praise in the English Standard Version. The ESV's translation team of over 100 members has admirably attempted to preserve the stylistic variety of biblical authorship and ease of reading (at the eighth-grade level) despite the word-for-word translation, which historically has resulted in a choppier text flow. Bible study aficionados will appreciate the short introductions to each book, an extensive center column cross-reference system, full-color maps, and a 14,500-entry concordance. Wonderful Bible, easier to read This version of the Bible (ESV) than the NIV version. Metal case is very strong. Great product!!!!!!

This is a very readable new translation. I love the center column cross-references. Noted evangelical scholars, J.I. Packer and Wayne Grudem, were involved in this translation, which is a revision of the RSV, making it the conservative counterpart to the New Revised Standard Version. Orthodox evangelicals should be completely satisfied by this translation. Moderates and liberals won't be so pleased. The translators have removed all gender inclusive language. Rating: - Font is way too small - returned product!
I was eager to purchase this bible because of other reviews...The ESV's language and apparent accuracy was a draw for me. However, when I received this product, I was very dissapointed. The font was TINY and after attempting to read this bible, I felt frustrated and put it down. Not a feeling you want to have during bible study.
Rating: - ESV knocks it out of the park!
Very well done! Good work. Just discovered that there are no "fornicators" in the ESV. Good thing too, most other translations translate that word from the Greek word "pornos" which is a much stronger word doing much more with the action of "perverse" when used in a physical context. There are a number of corrections like this that have kept up with our modern use of English. A must have to any ones collection. Best Interlinear I've seen as of yet. This is an excellent children's Bible.
[note: the "search inside this book" is not accurate, the same translation is shown, but not this beautiful children's edition]
