Editorial Review:A powerful call for a paradigm shift in heart disease therapy.
Based on the groundbreaking results of a twenty-year nutritional study by Dr. Esselstyn, a preeminent researcher and clinician, this book illustrates that a plant-based, oil-free diet can not only prevent and stop the progression of heart disease but can also reverse its effects. The proof lies in the incredible outcomes for patients who have followed Dr. Esselstyn's program, including a number of patients in his original study who had been told by their cardiologists that they had less than a year to live. Within months of starting the program, Dr. Esselstyn's patients began to improve dramatically, and twenty years later, they remain free of symptoms.
Complete with more than 150 delicious recipes, this book explains the science behind the simple plan that has drastically changed the lives of Dr. Esselstyn's patients forever. It will empower readers to take control of their heart health.

Got a hint to read this book over five weeks ago... The facts are scary regarding the myths of our nutritional system and what we are doing to ourselves. This book makes it abundantly clear how we must educate and correct our eating habits. A life saving read, clear and concise. Menus for those who need a jump start, and the results just might help save our lives, not to mention insurance problems by becoming healthy and making the right choices for how we feed ourselves.

I read this book after my husband (48 yrs old) had a severe heart attack. He is not overweight, does not smoke or drink alcohol...in good physical shape, no diabetes or high cholesterol. His "risk" was invisible--seems to be inherited from his Philippino heritage. But, this book explained with evidence and science why animal protein is not good for humans. We have changed our diet according to this book and are optimistic about our next medical lab results. Dr. Esselstyn earnestly and sensibly ... Read More

I bought this book for my wife who has high cholesterol. She has read it and I'm currently reading it and we both have found it an eye opener in many respects. This book is a must read for many with heart disease or with history of heart disease in their family. We have started the program as outlined in the book and will report back in a few weeks after my wife's cholesterol check.

In the midst of my 90 year old mother's hospitalization for blocked arteries and damaged heart valve, I was told during the course of my routine semi-annual heart exam that my heart valve leakage had gotten worse and would probably require a valve replacement in 10 years. I had always suspected my condition was diet related but had not found neither the motivation nor the proper guidance to address the problem. When my mother's health condition was providing me the motivation to address my own ... Read More
