Aahz discovers that the shabby-looking sword he bought at a flea market in a remote dimension is Ersatz, leader of the Golden Hoard, a fabled collection of powerful magical treasures that can turn any ordinary being into a hero. They go in search of the other members of the Hoard, only to find that they're not the only ones looking. A dancer named Calypsa, working with Aahz's old friend Tananda, is seeking to collect them to free her grandfather from the dreaded wizard Barrik. Trouble is, everyone wants the treasures for themselves, and there are good reasons why the Golden Hoard is never all in the same dimension at one time.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Myth it if you possibly can
They are getting worse and worse. Obviously an attempt to continue to wring money out of this concept. Written by Nye and approved by Aspin. No wonder it doesn't feel like his original works.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Still something mything
Focus for this book in the series is on Aahz and is told in first person from him. This one counters the last book dealing with Skeeve. MYTH Inc was disbanded several books ago and these are the adventures of some of the characters in their lives after that event. Aahz picks up an old sword on Deva and finds out it is a great magical sword and is one of the few remaining items of 'The Golden Hoard'. Aahz is unwittingly caught up in helping dancing bird-being Calypsa free her imprisoned grandfather ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Enjoyable entry in the Myth series
This is a delightful romp in the Myth series. Aahz buys a sword at a flea market which turns out to be worth much more than he paid. He's pulled unwillingly into a quest that leads him to many places, things, and people. The twists and turns of this story make for much of its appeal.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Something's off with this one
Maybe it's because Skeeve is missing (although there have been a couple others not focused on him that were good-- Guido and Nunzio come to mind) but this book was a big disappointment to me. It seemed slow, it took a long time for me to finish the book, and normally I speed right through them within a day, 2 at the most. The characters weren't as involving as they have been in the past, and for some reason I just never 'got into it'. I'm hoping this book is just a fluke, and that Myth-Chief will ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Mind-Numbing and Uninspired
There are two good things about this latest installment in the MYTH series: First off it's written from Aahz's perspective, something that sheds a few interesting tidbits and some marginally new insight into Asprin's verse. The second is that it came out in paperback so it's relatively cheap, at least when compared to hardcover offerings. Unfortunately that's about all I can really say about this lackluster book... sigh.

The quirky, imaginative humor we'd come to expect from the original ... Read More
