The Lost Art is a how-to-do-it drawing and painting book by portrait artist Christian Furr , who recently co-presented ITV's portrait painting competition 'A Brush With Fame' and is the youngest painter to have officially painted the Queen. Readable in a couple of hours, it provides useful tips on how beginners and amateurs alike can avoid the most common pitfalls associated especially with drawing. It also sidesteps the failings of many such manuals in presenting information so densely and dauntingly ... Read More

I've always had the urge to draw but I assumed that it was a skill that you either had or didn't have. AFter reading Chris's book I tried a few of the exercises and was pleasently surprised by the results. Not excellent by any means but I now realised that I could when directed properly produce something recognisable. A very straightforward introduction into how to think and see like an artist and how to transfer what you see down on to paper. Well done, Chris! :-)

I would say that this book is a must-have for anybody who wants to understand how to draw and paint. I was given it as a gift by a friend who knows I have always wanted to know how to draw.I started doing the quite simple exercises and worked my way through the book and before I knew it I was drawing like I have never done before. Very good indeed, made all the basics very clear and I really enjoyed the tutorials, I have not yet progressed to a full scale painting yet but this book certainly has given me the confidence to tackle the larger projects. I would have to say my drawing has much improved in a couple of weeks, since starting this book, than in the past 2 or 3 years. I would give it 5 stars but I bought it for the full £12.99 and now see it is available for £7.99 :(All in all an excellent book, more so at £7.99 ... Read More

This book is wicked! I recently did my Art A Level I had to do work to do with 'texture' zzz. It didnt have anything to do with the drawing and paintings I wanted to know about. A mate of mine recommended this book as they'd just bought it for their sister for Xmas as its a nice price ;) but ended up reading it himself and doing all the exercises in it! Its a real eye opener. It was excellent to see Leonardos theories updated plus loads of fun stuff like drawing David Beckham using a post-it note and drawing ... Read More
