Editorial Review:Spencer Tracy won an Oscar for his portrayal of Father Flanagan, who opens Boys Town and dedicates himself to helping juvenile delinquents go straight. Mickey Rooney plays one of the tougher kids, figuring out early on that Flanagan is nobody's fool. Warmhearted and inspiring, the film's inevitable sentimentality is nicely cut by Tracy's performance and a smart script by Eleanore Griffin and Dore Schary (who also won Oscars). A good film for all ages, directed by Norman Taurog (Adventures of Tom Sawyer). --Tom Keogh

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Why can't they make movies like this today?
BOYS TOWN is easily one of the best movies ever made.

I'll watch almost any classic Christmas movie at least once. I know BOYS TOWN is not technically a Christmas movie, but it does have a very memorable - albeit short - Christmas scene. And that scene was my first glimpse of BOYS TOWN. So, instead of continuing to flip channels, I stayed there. Soon Mickey Rooney appears. And the lovable "mascot", Pee-Wee. Now, I'm glad to say I own this movie and look forward to giving a copy ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Double Feature

This DVD contains two movies, "Boys Town" and the sequel with the same actors, "Men of Boys Town". The sequel is as good or better.

The featurette showing the real Boys Town orphanage for boys in Nebraska and the real Father Flanagan during what looks like the 1950's or 1960's is fascinating.

The first story is about the tough, younger brother of a gangster (Mickey Rooney) coming to live at the Boys Town orphanage. He has mixed feelings about being there and does not ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Timely!
We are planning a trip to Omaha soon, and will visit Boy's Town while we're there. This is a great tool to educate and build understanding and excitement before our trip.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - boys town
I am very happy with the product. It arrived quickly, and the movie was in good condition.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Feel Good Movie
Sometimes you just want a "feel good" movie. Boys town has great actors, a true story mixed with Hollywood fluff, and a pace that keeps the movie going forward with only a few dry spots. Spencer Tracy is great and pulls off one of his best performances ever. The supporting cast of child actors(Mickey Rooney & Henry Hull) fit into their parts like a hand in a glove. The movie should be updated with a new cast...this is a remake waiting to happen. An inspirational story.
