Rating: - Good history lesson and propaganda
There has been a political documentary, of recent vintage, called Why We Fight, which tries to examine the infamous Military Industrial Complex and its grip on this nation. It is considered both polemical and incisive in making its case against both that complex and the war fiasco we are currently involved in in Iraq. Yet, a far more famous series of films, with the same name, was made during World War Two, by Hollywood director Frank Capra. Although considered documentaries, and having won Oscars ... Read More
Rating: - If For Nothing Else, See This For "Prelude To War"
As the other reviewer noted, this is not the Eugene Jareki film. I was also linked here and thought it was because of the release date.
On the other hand, these DVDs - a two DVD set - include Capra's "Prelude to War". When you watch Prelude to War it is chilling because of the parallels between what Hitler did to take his Germany to war and what has been done here, now, to take the USA to war. My girlfriend and I watched that segment just because of the nostalgic value (We had just watched ... Read More
Rating: - Balanced, penetrating and deeply moving
If you're a patriot, if you're a pacifist, if you're a Christian, Muslim or Jew - do yourself and your fellow man a favor and see this documentary. This is no Michael Moore rant or a Chomsky polemic. This film explores the whole phenomena of the American military and the American empire in the voices of regular citizens like you and me as well as the players that make it happen today. It starts with Dwight Eisenhower's fairwell to the American people in which he cautions against the growth of the Military ... Read More
Rating: - Eisenhower's warning about the military-industrial complex still relevant
This is a powerful and disturbing film, examining how the military-industrial complex (which President Eisenhower warned us about upon departing office in 1961) has twisted American's foreign policy for its own ends. The film-maker clearly has an agenda in terms of criticizing American foreign policy, but the film actually provides a fairly convincing case about the numerous conflicts of interests that exist and its negative effects. Whether you agree or not with all the film's conclusions, it raises issues ... Read More
Rating: - American Propoganda
These movies were perfect for the US troops in World War II. They caused anger in the troops. It made them want to fight. As for being of historical value - well... they aren't. Take anything you watch with a grain of salt. Some of it may be true, some is not correct at all. The Americans use basic propoganda techniques like constantly repeating what Hitler said, and then showing what he did. The movies don't bother to tell how the political climate had changed and Hitler had been forced to act against ... Read More
