Rating: - A Woman's Lib Film - And They Mean It!
Love in the shadow of the oil-crisis: American businessman Clemens Reade (Cary Grant) sells the Khan of Bukistan hydraulic equipment and is very susceptible to his daughter's beauty and obedience. Tarji (Betta St. John) is drilled to spoil her ruler (her father now, later her husband) thoroughly and give him heaven on earth. Reade's own fiancee, Miss Effington "Effie" (Deborah Kerr) works at the foreign office and can spare little time for him. The licence contracts with Iran and Irak are safely ... Read More

if you want a similarity to "an affair to remember" this won't be it but its an entirely charming film , cary grant's performance is really one of his better works. Kerr has been better in other works. Grant, who wants a wife who can "just find having babies and taking care of a man" pleasurable , finds a dream wife from the fictitious country of Bookistan. hijinks ensue with Grant trying to get closer to his bride to be, meanwhile Kerr is his translator who follows his every ... Rating: - Grant and Kerr shine in lackluster comedy.
This is where Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr first displayed the chemistry that worked so memorably in the later AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER. The plot is silly -Grant dumps workaholic Kerr for simplistic, adoring "old-fashioned" wife-type. But before the wedding Kerr starts to educate the meek one. Except for Grant and Kerr it is a mediocre work. Oscar nommed for elaborate oriental costuming and Kerr's constantly changing fashions.
Rating: - One of the better ones
This is not the type of movie someone who loved "An Affair to Remember" would necessarily enjoy, because it is quite different. Still, it is fun to see the interplay between these two very accomplished actors, and the ending, as always, leaves you happy.
