Editorial Review: Bluegrass guitar doesn't get any better than Norman Blake and Tony Rice, who, along with Clarence White, remain the greatest of Doc Watson's flat-picking disciples. On this 1987 record of 14 duets, Blake and Rice show themselves to be complete musicians, not merely picking machines. Sure, there are a plethora of mind-blowing licks, but they also add some heartfelt vocals and delicate ballads into the mix. Much of the record consists of traditional fiddle tunes reworked for guitar, but the pair also include three Blake originals plus an eclectic assortment of covers ranging from Bill Monroe to the Delmore Brothers to Gordon Lightfoot. Guitarists will want to take notes, but all listeners will find the record consistently charming. --Marc Greilsamer

Rating: - My favorite guitar duo
These guys are incredible together! I've owned B&R II for years and am glad I finally got around to getting this one.
Rating: - Norman Blake and Tony Rice
Great music, I enjoyed listening to it. Tony referring to Norman as "son" got to me after two or three times, but I enjoy their singing and playing very much.
Rating: - BUY THIS ALBUM
If you are a fan of acoustic music, this album will bring a tear to your eye. These are two of the finest flatpickers around and the way that they sound together is absolute and unmitigated beauty.
Rating: - One Great Album
If you don't have this record, shame on you!
Rating: - WOW!!! To date this may be the best flat pickers album
Norman and Tony obviously have an enormous amount of respect for each other. The music here is simple on the surface, but as you listen to the clean DDD recording you'll notice the amazing depth of intertwined medleys and rhythm lines that evolve to grab you, only never to appear again. This album is a must have for any collection.
