Rating: - Everything old is new again
The Ancient Airs and Dances are a favourite to many a Respighi fan. This is another standout Respighi CD from Naxos. You couldn't find a better recording anywhere of these lively arrangements of Renaissance lute music. The stand out track is Bergamasca. Parts of it could be used in a movie Western, such as The Magnificent Seven and not sound out of place. Marvellous playing and recording that reveals all the music's sparkling details.
