Rating: - A Great Surprise
I had never heard of this album before stumbling upon it on amazon. This is actually a very good CD. Sarah Vaughan and the altered arrangements actually work very well together, and the result is a funkier R&B sound than either Sarah or the Beatles have usually. I really dig this album. Give it a chance (check out the audio samples), a few friends I have shown it to really enjoyed it as well, even preferring a few of her versions to the originals! (sacrilege!)

Rating: - Terrible! Bad arrangements and very kitschy dated sound
I received this album from a friend, and was expecting a nice refreshing take on the Beatles by one of the greatest Jazz singers that the 20th century ever heard. Instead, I discovered horrendously unfitting arrangements that neither suit Sarah's voice nor the Beatles' compositions. The dated ARP Synthesizer sounds for one are very distracting and kitschy, and so is the rest of the instrumentation throughout the album.

Rating: - For Variety Freaks Only: Not For Purists Of Any Kind!
I admit to liking this somewhat cheesy program. The arrangements are nothing special; they're sort of typical 80's synthesizer schlock (although I gather this '81 release was recorded much earlier), and yet somehow this great singer rises above it all, delivering such a warm, affectionate tribute to the Beatles canon that I enjoy the entire album in spite of my better judgment (regarding production values). I only rate this as low as I do for two simple reasons: 1) to warn away the jazz snobs, the ... Read More
Rating: - Rock & Roll, Latin Rythms & 3 beautiful Vaughan ballads.
This was recorded & produced in 77 & Atlantic sat on it until 81. Sarah figured why doesn't the greatest jazz voice in the world perform the most famed group's (Beatles)material in the world. For Sarah to get on Atlantic she had to sound commercial the way Atlantic wanted Sarah to sound.Atlantic did it with Ella,Peggy & exceptionally with Esther Phillips.Atlantic makes Anita Baker sound pop & one way because now days jazz is not all that marketable.I am a Vaughan fanatic & it is ... Rating: - Forget Jazz! This is hip Sarah Vaughan singing The Beatles!
If you're a radical Jazz vocal fan, forget it! If you search for a good reason to prove how can a big vocalist play its role perfectly and independently of material, this is a must!
I love Jazz, I love Jazz vocal but most of all I love Good Music and I love Sarah Vaughan. This the real good spirit on listening this album of inventive and pop swinging (yes, pop!) arrangements by the late great Marty Paich which wraps Vaughan's voice beautifully.
