In the late '60s, Tommy Roe's budding bubblegum bop was the kind of stuff aspiring smarties turned their nose up at. He was a "teenybopper" (albeit one who bravely forged a trail soon to be trod by the daintily dreamy likes of Bobby Sherman and the Cassidy Bros.) when many were into revolutionary rock & roll. Much of his material has aged quite nicely however. "Dizzy" is a near perfect pop song. Indeed, it stands as the "MMM Bop" of its day. The Buddy Holly nod "Sheila" and the truly filthy (one hopes) "Jam Up and Jelly Tight" prove Roe wasn't a one-hit wonder. --Steven Stolder

I had the " 12 IN A ROE " greatest hits LP , and waited years for a TOMMY ROE " GREATEST HITS " CD that had the original ABC label hits. THIS ONE IS IT. Don't be fooled by cheap, budget collections with songs like " Yummy Yummy Yummy ", which wasn't his hit anyway. This CD is great, with 18 songs, including the big ones, and also later mid-chart hits, like the awesome " PEARL " , " WE CAN MAKE MUSIC ", and his last hit " STAGGER LEE ". Raves on this CD. A great many North American singers who were household names during the first three years of the 1960s suddenly found themselves either bumped off th charts completely when the first waves of the British Invasion hit the shores in 1964, or relegated to the lower regions of the charts. This is a great compilation of Tommy Roe's hits and near misses. While much of his music carries the bubble gum tag, the tunes are light and his voice is good. I especially liked the final cut, Stagger Lee, which surprised me because he did a great cover. As for the bubble gum songs, Sweet Pea, Hooray for Hazel, and Dizzy are cute songs for the era. Jam Up and Jelly Tight is bouncy and Pearl is a hidden gem. For the older baby boomers, the CD brings back lots of pleasant memories.

I'll admit I bought this just to get the remastered version of one of my favorite childhood songs, "Dizzy", but I ended up enjoying the entire CD.
Also, I'm listening to the CD on a computer using Sennheiser headphones and I can tell you that the recording quality is superb. Buy this CD and hear Tommy Roe like you've never heard him before. This CD has really grown on me since I bought it.

For nearly one cool decade Tommy Roe has been regaling his audience with some delightful pieces such as "Everytime a Bluebird Cries" and my own personal favorite, winter of 1963's "Everybody." This makes you want to gear up your COOOOOL 1963 Ford Falcon and cruise to some very cool songs.
This excellent CD provides a clear crisp sound of the classics you enjoyed during rock's Cool Era. Don't just take our word for it -- just go get this collection!
