If Rhino's more comprehensive Anthology 1964-1977 is too rich for your blood, this 10-song collection offers a good introduction to the charismatic singer-guitarist's biggest hits. Along with the immortal P.F. Sloan-penned spy drama "Secret Agent Man," the disc contains such memorable Rivers numbers as the bittersweet "Poor Side of Town," the rollicking Chuck Berry covers "Memphis" and "Maybelline," his soulful readings of the Motown hits "Baby, I Need Your Lovin'" and "The Tracks of My Tears," and his very credible interpretations of the blues standards "Seventh Son" and "The Midnight Special." --Scott Schinder

Rating:  - It's fantastic because Rivers is fantastic (but it's not the greatest collection)
This album is great because Johnny Rivers is great.
But, it's a flawed collection for reasons mentioned here. For me, the biggest flaw is that it's missing a few songs.
However, the price is right and not a bad place to start if you want to discover this fantastic guy who getting neglected a bit by history.

Johnny Rivers was a great performer. He has many wonderful hits during the times when I was in high school. 'Secret Agent Man' was an exciting theme song for a TV show that I enjoyed. I think his best one is the folk song 'Where Have all the Flowers Gone'. This must be the perfect version of this famous Pete Seeger folk song.
