Diamond David Lee Roth is back in all his self-congratulatory glory. "My game is better than ever / Winners, they come and go / Legends, they're forever," he boasts on "Slam Dunk!" while his backup musicians play a galloping, surging rhythm that sounds much like early Van Halen. This will come as good news to the legions of old-VH fans mourning the group's hastily aborted reunion effort of the mid '90s. Roth's voice still oozes with sleaze, and his charisma is palpable, even if he can't scream with the authority of days past. But bear in mind that the DLR Band features one original Van Halen member. Guitarist John Lowery is a studio whiz, capable of approximating Eddie Van Halen's harmonic squeals and lightning-fast leads, but neither he nor Roth can write like Eddie. And while tunes such as "Slam Dunk!," "Counter-Blast," and "Little Texas" sound punchy, they lack that knockout blow Van Halen once delivered so effectively. Elsewhere, the DLR Band sound like prime-era Led Zeppelin, with Roth as frontman. This is certainly a fun listen. Just don't expect the second coming of Van Halen. --Jon Wiederhorn

Rating: out of 5 stars - Roth fumbles this one!
DLR had great albums up through "A lil' ain't enough."

This album, however, was so disappointing that I nearly destroyed it. I LOVE Roth's solo career prior to this album.

The guitar work is uninspired, the lyrics are crap, the vocals are sub-par for Roth, etc.

When everyone else was accepting Van Hagar, I was holding out for Roth.

Silly me. At least Mr. Hagar knew how to run a solo career.

Rating: out of 5 stars - David Lee Roth = Van Halen
Too bad this album was one of Dave's worst selling. It's one of his best. It's a great rock album... no pop here! He has left behind the days of Just Like Paradise and California Girls (Don't get me wrong, I LOVE those. I'm a huge fan of everything Dave) and returned to the Van Halen type mindset. The guitar work here is my favorite of any Dave solo work, and overall, it feels more like a band effort than solo Dave... maybe that's why this is the "DLR Band." I'm not going to say it's exactly Van ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - WA WA ZAT!!
Since DAVE left VH he has proven that he can play with just about any band and still rock the house, and this album is no exception!!
I would put this album up against EAT'EM AND SMILE, not that it's better
but it's just as good.
Roth is underrated as a solo astist, this album will rock your shoes off!!
My favorite songs are "SLAM DUNK" & "COUNTER BLAST" & "LITTLE TEXAS".
I rate this CD a 10 from 1to10!!

Rating: out of 5 stars - A good Rockin Time By "Diamond Dave" Lee Roth
The DLR BAND...a ROCKIN PROJECT CD FOR DAVID LEE ROTH. Ive allways loved this cd since the first day it has come out. The cd came out around the VANHAGAR ERA. If you love Classic old Van Halen. You love it. John 5(John Lowery) does most of the guitar on this cd.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Best DLR Album !
In the vein of old "Van Halen".Kick A-s all the way! Id take this dlr band record over "Eat Em' And Smile" and "Skyscraper" any day of the week.Less keyboards and synths, more guitar driven, raw and punchy. Many critics ripped this when it came out,but they were a bunch of know nothing idiots! This sucker cranks and Dave did one hell of a job on it.Vai acts as though he's too good to associate with Roth nowadays...screw him! Also,i believe this disc surpasses anything post-5150 from VH.By the way the ... Read More
