UFO was my favorite band during my high school years, and I've rediscovered them recently through some discs given me by my cousin. "Obsession" was the last production of the classic lineup that featured Michael Schenker on guitar, and it's a collection of almost uniformly great songs. "Arbory Hill" is a pretty bad musical interlude, but it has the virtue of being very short. The only reason I remove a star is that I don't care for the buzzy quality to Schenker's guitar on this album. Standout ... Read More

UFO-Obsession ***
I'm having a really hard time understanding why Obsession is included with the classic era UFO releases, because it doesn't contend with any of the other albums from that era. Everyone asks why there wasn't more from this album used on the live album which was released just after it Strangers in the Night, well it's pretty obvious considering the band said they didn't like Obsession and that it was recorded before this album was released so they were only playing a few ... This is UFO at their best. Hard rocking metal songs with smooth sweet interludes. A must for a hard rock collection.

UFO should have been primed for major US success after the release of 1977's 'Lights Out' and the June 1978 release of its immediate followup 'Obession'. However band chemistry (both literally and figuratively) was always teetered on self-implosion and the tour to support 'Obsession' proved to be the final straw that broke UFO's legendary lineup and any momentum that was needed to reach superstar status.
