Editorial Review: Rebecca Lynn Howard's bio describes the 20-year-old Kentuckian as working at her career since age 10. That may seem like hype in a time when karaoke singers land Nashville record deals, but there's some substance here. Reba, Lila McCann, John Michael Montgomery, and Howard's fellow Kentuckian Patty Loveless have already covered her original songs, and her voice possesses the searing, primal soulfulness of Loveless or even a Dolly Parton. She fully reveals her gifts on the sweetly vulnerable "You're Not a Memory Yet" and two snappy, spare honky-tonkers: "Melancholy Blue" (penned by Tom Douglas and Harlan Howard) and "Was It As Hard to Be Together." Of course, producer Mark Wright goes and shoehorns her into predictable, radio-friendly, assembly-line Nashville formulas much of the time, epitomized by the gimmicky "Heartsounds" and "Believe It or Not," a numbingly dull, Whitney Houston/Celine Dion-inspired power ballad. Howard has real potential, if she could avoid conforming to Music Row's same old same old. --Rich Kienzle

Rating: - rebecca rocks
This is a very strong 4-star album from Rebecca Lynn Howard. It's almost, but not quite, 5 stars. It fits in the country/pop genre, altho it's not too poppy, still recognizable as primarily country. Anyway, Rebecca, from Kentucky, has an excellent voice for country music and is a strong singer. Her voice moves easily through its considerable vocal range. The songs are enjoyable to listen to for the most part, tho a bit on the fluffy side. The ones I really enjoy are:

Rating: - 10 Star Album
This album deserves 10 Stars! Rebecca Lynn gives all she has when she sings. You can feel her (literally) right through the music. She delivers w/ power and gets into the song. How in the hell could anyone give this album less than 5 stars? No, this isn't as good as the album "Forgive"...but it's still damn good!

Rating: - Magical debut album from a Patty Loveless fan
I remember that it took a long time for this album to appear but it was certainly worth the wait. I don't know how many songs Rebecca recorded before this album was finally released but the composition of the album seems to have changed a few times along the way. On my copy, the booklet gives details and lyrics for twelve songs (the same twelve as listed on the track listing here and in that order) but only eleven of them actually appear on the album (and not in the order they are listed) - one song ... Imagine: you are the promotions manager for this label, and you hear this cd for the first time. You listen to the first song and you start to cringe: why did they arrange the song like that? There is no way she will hit that note, and she does, without breaking a sweat. The PM orders a Lexus, and then looks at her; she can sing, and she has got the looks. He thinks: I'm going to be RICH.
And the shame of it all is that he should be rich; what a great cd, what a voice, and it's sad it didn't ... Read More
