One would think that "the shot heard 'round the world", the killing of Arch-Duke Ferdinand and his wife Sophie on July 28, 1914 sparking WW1 would have somewhat a better treatment than this terribly cheap, voice-dubbed, badly acted, stupidly scripted.....ugh! How in the world did Christopher Plummer and Maximilian Schell ever end up in this 111 minute mess? Rating: - Another well-produced but historically somewhat shaky take on Sarajevo 1914
For an incident that touched off one of the most devastating wars in humanity's history, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Duchess Sophie at Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, has drawn relatively little attention from filmmakers. This is only the second of two movies I'm aware of on the topic - the first, which I've also reviewed, is De Mayerling a Sarajevo (From Mayerling to Sarajevo), a 1940 French offering from Max Ophuls.
