Editorial Review: Acclaimed director John Sturges (The Magnificent Seven, Bad Day at Black Rock, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral) turns the legends of the West upside down in this rip-roaring western comedy about the year Denver was nearly devastated by a droughtof whiskeyand had to have fortywagonloads imported through very harshand very thirstyterritory! Academy AwardÂ(r) winners* Burt Lancaster and Martin Landau team with OscarÂ(r) nominee** Lee Remick inthis beautifully filmed epic adventure that "wins both laughs and thrills" (The Hollywood Reporter)! Also starring Jim Hutton, Brian Keith and Donald Pleasence, this irreverent and literally dry look at frontier life is "possibly the funniest western ever made" (Los Angeles Times)!

Rating: - Just a clean fun western movie
I know zero people who have seen this funny western movie. Too bad. It's not all that sophisticated, and it has some non-PC characterizations. But if your object is watching a movie just to have fun, this one has lots of it. The oracle stole the show just as cleanly as the first time I saw this film. The DVD is high-quality.
Rating: - Good movie
This was one of my husband's favorite old movies and I didn't remember seeing it. So I ordered it for him and we watched it the other night. It was very good.
Rating: - enjoyable comic western
A humorous look at the wild west where the temperance ladies cause more uproar than the liquor seeking Indians or the greedy mining community leaders with Burt Lancaster, the fort commander, trying to keep peace. Good fun.
Rating: - The first- and still best-Mocumentary?
This is one of my favorite movies. It is a very warmly told send of every historical documentary ever made about any conflict. Many fine actors are featured but the two who truly stand out are Burt Lancaster and Lee Remick. Lee Remicks portayal of Cora Templeton Massingale has to be her all time finest performance, played to absolute perfection. Unlike later mocumentaries this film is a light handed comic gem- there is humor at all levels from the most basic slapstick to witty repartee. This film ... Read More
Rating: - Hallelujah Trail DVD
This has been my all time favorite movie for over 40 years. Funny, non-violent, and clean (even with a little profanity from Brian Keith's character). Even though I've seen it probably 40 times, I still laugh at the gunfight in the dust storm.
