FR-460 is the world's smallest and most advanced family radio. Measuring less than 3"high and only 3/4" thick, it is literally as small as the smallest pager. It contains the most desirable features people ask for: 14 channels, 47 privacy codes per channel, which is the most of any radio in the market and provides communication privacy; rechargeable when using nickel metal hydride batteries, which are available as an accessory; and channel scan, which monitors all channels, looking for any communication activity. You don't need an FCC license to use this Family Radio Service (FRS) radio, which transmits on 14 channels with 47 privacy codes per channel. Features include channel scan and a keypad lock to ensure you don't accidentally hit the talk button. Priority scan allows you to program in three channels to scan.

This radio is no longer manufactured since cherokee (wireless marketing) went out of business in 1999. A company called entel in europe makes the same radio today only in europe. It is called the eurowave and operates on the licence free pmr446 frequencies. When the radio arrived it would not turn on. Since there was no possibility of warranty I took the radio apart and discovered that the battery contacts were not installed properly. Now it works fine.
