There's nothing original in The Scorpion King, but this derivative action franchise gets off to a rousing start by cleverly stealing from a lot of better movies. Capitalizing on his brief cameo in The Mummy Returns, Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. World Wrestling Federation star the Rock) stars as Mathayus, an Akkadian assassin in the age preceding Egyptian pharaohs, who vows to avenge his brother's murder by an undefeated warlord (Steven Brand) prophesied to become the desert-ruling Scorpion King. Their battle for supremacy comprises most of the film's brisk 95-minute running time, punctuated by comic relief from Mathayus's obligatory sidekick (Grant Heslov), romance with a beautiful sorceress (Kelly Hu), and alliance with a massive Nubian (Michael Clarke Duncan) on the eve of their climactic showdown. There's no rhyme or reason to the film's depiction of ancient civilization (the costuming is particularly ludicrous), but the Rock demonstrates adequate action-star potential, and director Chuck Russell (The Mask) wraps it all in a slick, professional package. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: out of 5 stars - Forgettable Movie.
It has violence, more than action. The storyline is poor and unoriginal. The acting is generally speaking nominal. Two-Stars does it.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Greatly entertaining.
I like sword fighting movie. This movie has lots of humour and action. Kelly Hu looks beautiful. Even though the plot is not original but the film greatly entertains me.

I own it.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Rocky Miavia
This Guy Pulled The Tights To Beat The Sultan At Wrestlemania 13. This Guy Was scared To Fight Midgets At Wrestlemania 2000. And This guy pinned Vince Mcmahon to win the wwe title. When he Could not pin the Champion Tripple H. This Movie is as entertaining as his Wrestling Career. If You Smell Why The Rock Is Full Of Bull.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Sort of interesting....
Ever heard of The Mummy movies? This movie is supposed to be related to them, but I see no simularities except for the name, which you must see the 2nd Mummy movie for.
Unlike The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, The Scorpian King deals with a sharper and less humorous plot. In it, some great muscled warrior ( played by " The Rock. " Must I say more?. ) who apparently saves poor people goes and tries to kill an evil ruler, but is sidetracked when a beautiful woman ( of course- what's a ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Accomplished what it set out to do
This film is no epic panorama. It was not meant to be. When the film begins to get serious, the humour of the hilarious main character pulls it back to reality. He actually makes the story more believable in doing so. The fact that there are so many campy and over-the-top scenes actually testifies to the absurd brilliance of this epillion. It is pure entertainment and tragi-comedy, great action and satisfying ancient-style plot, you only have to be willing to humble yourself to benefit.
