Featured Listmania! Editorial Review:
Norton Internet Security 2002 is a complete PC security suite, designed to protect you while you are online. Earlier editions of Norton Internet Security offered a separate Family Edition; that edition's features have now been incorporated into the standard product. Norton Internet Security 2002 is also Windows XP compatible.
Four tools make up the Norton Internet Security 2002 suite: Norton AntiVirus 2002, Norton Personal Firewall 2002 (two topnotch products also sold separately), Privacy Control, and Parental Control. This is the same mix as before, but each element has been modestly upgraded. For example, instant-message filtering keeps personal or confidential material from being transferred via Instant Messenger, while the ad-blocking feature removes banner ads from online sites, noticeably speeding up page downloads. The parental control features in this new release keep young people from accessing inappropriate material through file-sharing programs and instant messages, in addition to blocking the content of specific Web sites.
Like earlier editions, Norton Internet Security 2002 is virtually self-configuring--simply insert the CD, install, and reboot. Then use the Security Assistant wizard to customize your level of protection simply by clicking links or answering Yes/No questions, although the preconfigured settings are sufficient to protect PCs in most situations. A new network wizard makes configuration of the personal firewall on home networks easy by detecting local files and printer shares. It also greatly simplifies setting up a firewall to protect multiple PCs sharing one Internet connection; it automatically identifies all machines on the network and configures the gateway that is actually connected to the Net.
If you already own Norton Internet Security 2001 this year's model may not be a compelling upgrade, but those without PC protection software or for users of Windows XP, Norton Internet Security 2002 is a complete protection solution. --Roger Gann, Amazon.uk.co
Norton Internet Security 2002 is your protection from viruses, hackers, and privacy threats. It's the only suite of utilities that includes Symantec's security solutions in one easy-to-use, completely integrated product. The suite includes Norton AntiVirus, trusted antivirus software. Norton AntiVirus now repairs many virus infections automatically, without interrupting your work. It scans and cleans both incoming and outgoing e-mail, updates itself automatically over the Internet, and defends against script-based viruses such as the I Love You and Anna Kournikova viruses, even between virus definition updates.
Norton Personal Firewall blocks hackers' intrusions. Whether you have a dialup, DSL, or cable connection, your PC needs this vital safeguard. Worried about Web sites getting your personal information without permission? Worry no more with Norton Privacy Control. It helps you keep e-mail addresses and credit card numbers secure, and control which sites track your activities with Internet cookies.
Norton Parental Control keeps your children safe on the Internet. It includes a comprehensive, customizable list of objectionable sites, and lets you set up different Internet access privileges for each person in your household. Get Norton Internet Security 2002 today and protect yourself and your PC when you e-mail, bank, shop, or play online.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Just DON'T Do It
This is the most problematic program I've ever tried to use or uninstall. My first problem was with my wireless internet connection card from Cingular. Norton would not allow me to load web pages. Boy...I was protected! I couldn't even load the Norton web site to try to find help. I disabled NIS and I was finally able to load web pages.

Then, I could not download my mail into Outlook. I called Earthlink, my dialup service, and told them the error message I received and they told me ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - WHAT A NIGHTMARE! CAUSED US TO REINSTALL EVERYTHING!
Guess how I spent SuperBowl Sunday!? In complete H*LL dealing with Norton Internet Security (NIS)! It'll be a long time before I ever buy anything from Norton again. You name, it happened. Spiked CPU usage, no more internet connection, IMPOSSIBLE to uninstall, WORST TECH SUPPORT PHONE MENU SYSTEM I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED, unqualified techs who gave up on us and yes, our only option now is to wipe the hard drive and start over. I'm a software engineer with 20 years of programming experience and am often ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Better than average product. Non-existant support.
Symantec's Norton Internet Security combines a firewall, anti-virus and ad blocking in a nice package. The LiveUpdate feature makes updates easy. However, Symantec will give you LITTLE to NO support even if you find a bug with their product. Good luck contacting them because they have hidden their phone numbers on their website to force you to solve problems yourself. The problem is that some problems are not solvable by anyone other than Symantec. For example, they have a bug that basically breaks ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Can be hard to lasso down
While I feel secure with this product and am thoroughly satisfied with the antivirus software, it has the annoying tendency to ignore the user's orders. Specifically, the software allows you to allow, deny, or automatically configure other programs on your computer which try to access the Internet. But after you provide a setting, weeks later it will ask you again whether to allow, deny, etc. as if the program is totally new and had no idea what settings you had put in previously. In the long run this becomes ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Buy NIS 2003 For the Ad Blocking Feature Alone
This is a good product, but the 2003 line is better. Norton
Internet Security 2003 contains an OUTSTANDING ad blocking
feature. After installation, I visited numerous sites which had
previously dumped loads of pop-up and pop-under ad windows and
flash-based ads on my screen, but now -- POOF -- no more trash,
with no discernable negative effects on web page loading. Plus
ad banners are effectively eliminated--so all you get is the web
page you want. After a week of intensive ... Read More
