Editorial Review:
Migrating your stuff from your old PC to a new one is a daunting task, and often a source of bewilderment and frustration. Detto Technologies' IntelliMover is designed to make the process a simple, step-by-step procedure that anyone can follow, even a staunch computer newbie. It achieves its goal, although it would be nice if it was designed to do more.
IntelliMover replicates the GUI and application settings from your old PC to your new one through a graceful and friendly interface. Available with a parallel or USB cable, it's a complete migration package in one product. The installation procedure includes an animated tour of the program, and it assumes that you're ready to migrate: after installing, it launches right into its step-by-step transfer function. You can, however, cancel it and restart the process any time by launching the application from the Start menu.
Capable of transferring settings from old Windows operating systems to newer ones, the process truly is as easy as Detto makes it out to be. It assumes that you've already installed the applications you intend to use on the new computer, as the software won't transfer entire programs, only files (such as Word documents, image files, everything in your My Documents folder, and so on) and settings. During the step-by-step process, it searches the old computer for anything it's able to transfer, offers to update itself via the Internet in case any patches have been released, and then instructs you to install the item and follow the steps on the new computer. After the initial transfer is complete, you can run a drag-and-drop file transfer utility to pick up any files that the process might have missed.
In our tests, IntelliMover recognized most applications and games, but it did miss a handful of them. It recognized and prepared to transfer settings for Quake III Arena, for instance, but not for more recent titles such as Jedi Outcast. It also missed PowerStrip, a popular video customization application, and Mozilla, a browser alternative to Internet Explorer and Netscape. Worse, it refuses to transfer entire applications, forcing you to install them before the move (probably for copyright concerns, but we see no logical reason that it can't move applications instead of copying them). The documentation is thin and sparse, and doesn't include a troubleshooting section, and although we didn't encounter any problems, that doesn't mean nobody will.
Regardless, IntelliMover is a simple and capable migration application that takes the mystery out of moving your old files and settings to a new PC. It does exactly what it's advertised to do, and it does it well. --Joel Durham, Jr.
IntelliMover makes it easy to transfer data files, folders, e-mail, MP3s, address books, dictionaries, and settings from one PC to another. IntelliMover checks to see what's on your old PC and looks to see what applications are on your new PC. Then it moves your data over, quickly and easily.
With IntelliMover, a typical migration of around 500 MB takes approximately 20 minutes, depending on the size and number of files you have. Use the step-by-step wizard to migrate the hundreds of ways you have customized your applications and operating systems. You can securely and selectively move the specific settings and files you want onto your new PC. You have complete control over what is being transferred so you don't have to move outdated or unused data to your new computer. In addition, you can continue to transfer information between your old and new PC, even after the initial migration is completed.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Pleasant surprise
I'm not a tech-savvy guy. Usually these types of products don't work for me, but surprise, surprise. This worked as advertised. I set up the software on both machines (Dell 5100 laptop w/ Windows XP to Dell E510 w/ XP), hit "ok" and went to dinner with my wife. I returned a little over an hour later and my new computer looked like my old computer. I use these computers for work and I have a lot of data on them. I spent over an hour reviewing everything and I didn't see anything it missed (except ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Do not buy this product!
This product turned into an expensive and useless piece of junk. As noted in several other reviews, what they don't tell you in their advertising is that it will not transfer any programs. It also crashed every time I tried to transfer something as simple as an MP3. What it did transfer, it moved to non-sensical locations on the new computer. The "drag and drop" function worked well for basic text files, but I ended up transfering everything else by burning it to a disc on the old computer, and just ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Pure Garbage!
As someone else previously pointed out Detto fails to clearly inform the buyer on product packaging or its website, that the program does *not* transfer applications.

You already have this program...it's called "copy and paste"

Rating: out of 5 stars - Perfect if you have about a hundred hours to waste.
This product is a piece of c___p. I doubt it saved me (or will save me -- I'm still trying to make it work 72 hours later) a minute of time over burning CDs. It is BUGGY BUGGY BUGGY and crashes CONSTANTLY!!! In the process of migrating from a Dell desktop to a Dell laptop, I have restarted this program well over 50 times at this point and have installed it three times. It is, first of all, a resource hog -- so you cannot do a single thing on either computer while it's operating. The original migration (which ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Do NOT buy or use this product
I recently upgraded from an HP running XP Home, to a custom built PC running XP Pro, and wanted to transfer files to my new PC in an efficient manner. Well, after spending approximately 10 hours installing programs on my new machine, and then running Detto (which took about 8 of the 10 hours), I have had MULTIPLE problems with my new PC, which worked perfectly before I ran Detto. I should have used that time to simply burn stuff to CD's instead. If you are thinking of purchasing this product - STOP! Do NOT do ... Read More
