Editorial Review: RECOTON SP-2, STEREO PHONOGRAPH PRE-AMPLIFIER
No, they don't put phono inputs on too many components anymore. And no, you can't plug your turntable into any old audio input. But you can use Recoton's affordable and compact SP-2 outboard phono preamplifier to give your trusty record spinner a new lease on life. Just plug your turntable's left/right RCA outputs into the SP-2, fix your turntable's ground wire somewhere on a grounded component, run a stereo analog audio interconnect between the SP-2 and your audio/video receiver or computer system, and you're ready to start enjoying the wonders of analog stereo once again. The SP-2 applies the necessary RIAA (Record Industry Association of America) equalization curve and boosts the signal level to standard consumer line levels. Handy mounting slots let you bolt the device to the back of your receiver or entertainment case. What's in the Box Phono preamp, power adapter, and a data sheet.

This product allowed me to connect my old turntable to a new amplifier - as you know if you are reading this, they don't make the 'phono' inputs on amps any more. Just plug it into AUX you say! Sorry - you need a device to amplify the turntable output to line level as well as to process it to the correct standard. This device does this - it is powered (requires an AC outlet) so no worries about batteries. It is light and unobtrusive - once you get it connected you never need think of it again. ... Read More

The preamp is small enough to hide in the cobweb of connections yet still
perform beautifully in converting my LPs to CDs.

I am very happy with this piece needed to play my vinyl recordings. The music sounds just as it should when the records were made; a nice vintage sound is what I want to hear.

I bought this thing to connect my old Technics turntable to my component CD Recorder. While it works as advertised, the assembly was a bit shoddy - to wit: The guts (including both sets of RCA connector jacks) were inadequately secured to the body shell - making connection a very dicey matter. With some perseverance and a pair of needle nosed pliers, I was able to get things connected, but a lot of swearing was involved in the process. If any children or pets had been nearby, they would probably have ... Read More

I purchased this item for a customer of mine. I did the installation and it worked flawlessly. Haven't heard back from the customer so all must be well. When you get in a bind with a receiver that has no phono input..this is the gadget. No need for more expensive types unless you're doing high quality re-recordings or something of that nature.
