Editorial Review: Technics' SLBD20D is an entry-level semiautomatic turntable. It's capable of playing at either 33-1/3 or 45 rpm (using the included adapter) with no need to adjust tracking force or anti-skating. The low-mass tonearm and supplied P-mount moving magnet cartridge will coax sweet sounds out of your record collection. The P-mount cartridge (supplied) requires very little setup (it simply plugs in to the end of the tonearm) and is easily user replaceable. An antiresonant base cuts down on vibration, and a DC servo motor keeps platter rotation in tight control. All controls are outside the acrylic cover and can be accessed when the cover is closed. Plugs into your receiver's phono inputs. What's in the Box Turntable with attached cartridge, turntable cover, rubber platter mat, 45-RPM adapter, 68-inch AC power cord, 32-inch stereo RCA cable, ground wire, 2 manuals (English/French), 2 repairs/parts lists (US/Canada), product registration card, notice with precautions
Technics is proud to introduce its SL-BD20D Belt-Drive Semi-Automatic Turntable. It features DC Servo Motor for accurate platter rotation, Semi-Automatic Operation with automatic return and shut-off, Anti-Resonant TNRC Base for excellent anti-resonance characteristics, T4P P-Mount Plug-In Cartridge Connector System for convenient cartridge installation and replacement and Low-Mass Straight Tonearm. High Performance MM Cartridge is included for high quality record playback. The SL-BD20D also comes with Detachable Dust Cover to help protect records from dust.

Rating: - Because I like records
I am not a sneering audiophile, just a dignified music lover who invested in hundreds of records in the 1980s and since. So I decided to upgrade my 20-year-old turntable with something reputable that wouldn't hurt the records but wouldn't cost multiple hundreds of dollars. I bought this turntable, and, at the advice of some other reviewers, the Grado black P-mount cartridge. Warning: it may be possible to break the tonearm by installing the cartridge carelessly, so unplug everything, lock down the ... Read More

I bought the turntable last month since I decided to get back into playing vinyl LP's since used LP's are so cheap. I like being able to read the liner notes without using a magnifying glass. :-P
I have a Radio Shack 50 watt per channel integrated amplifier with a phono input and a ground screw. I just put the turntable together, plugged it in and connected the ground wire. It works like a charm! Sounds great and plays all my records without a hitch (or skip).
I read that the cartridge ... Read More

After not being able to listen to my records for many years, I bought this turntable. I was disappointed when the auto-return did not operate properly and I had to return it. However, the online return was very simple - I took it to Staples - and had a replacement, surprisingly, in a couple of days, probably before the defective one got back to the factory.
Now I am very satisfied with my purchase and have been enjoying my records, most of which are not available on CD. Some reviewers suggest ... Read More
Rating: - OK product, crappy seller
I received my turntable in, what I thought, perfect condition. "Super Saver Shipping" is actually USP ground from NY, which takes all of eternity and then some, to arrive in CA.
The turntable itself looks sturdy, but I haven't been able to test anything else, as the needle it came with was BROKEN. Which now means I have to buy a $21 dollar replacement. Or wait through the living hell of returning the item to J&R, a seller that doesn't accept normal e-mail returns.
Amazon should really ... Read More

While looking for a replacement for my Bang & Olufsen BeoGram 1602 I found this Technics turntable. Since I have a very nice older Pioneer receiver, I wanted a turntable that didn't have a pre-amp built in. So this turntable looked perfect for what I was looking for. Once I had it all hooked up, I was so excited to listen to my new turntable. I put the needle down, the music began. I did not have the music at a very high level, but as soon as the music started, vibrations came through the platter and made a ... Read More
