Editorial Review: Designed for audio engineers, musicians, and others interested in recording CDs from sources such as vinyl LPs and cassettes, Tascam's CC-222 combines a professional-quality stereo cassette deck with a CD-RW drive in a single rackmountable component. The CC-222 is completely self-contained, requiring no computer or other peripheral device to operate. What's more, the CC-222 is compatible with both data and music (or "digital-audio") branded CD-R and CD-RW discs, freeing you to use whatever media is most suitable for your purposes. You can connect your turntable's output directly with the CC-222's grounded RIAA phono input, which lets you burn high-quality CDs from your favorite records with ease. (The inputs are designed for use with moving-magnet cartridges.) The unit's other inputs and outputs consist of 2 each stereo analog (left/right) RCA analog inputs and outputs and 1 each coaxial and optical stereo digital-audio input and output. One line output is CD only, the other is CD and cassette (cassette sound will take priority if both units are playing). Features include internal dubbing from cassette to CD and CD to cassette, bidirectional cassette playback (select single-side play, both-sides play, or continuous play), pitch control (+/- 12 percent, cassette only), Dolby B noise reduction (on/off), and continual/repeat playback of both CD and cassette, which will commence playback in one medium as soon as the other has stopped. You can swap tapes and discs during the other format's playback, resulting in hours of uninterrupted listening. The CD recorder may be set to commence recording when it senses an input signal from an external audio component. You can sample-rate convert from, say, a 48 kHz DAT to the 44.1 kHz CD standard, adjust the input level in both the analog and digital domains, create additional track IDs while you're copying to CD, or bypass the sample-rate converter and the input level to create a 1:1 copy of a digital source (must be 44.1 kHz). Other CD features include random play, track programming, and repeat play (1/all/A-B looping). What's in the Box CD/cassette combo recorder, RC-222 remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Rating: - Finally, a solution for music fans with a pile of cassettes!
Eversince my 60 GB iPod photo gave me the power of carrying a great part of my music collection anywhere I go, I was getting more greedy and looking for an easy mechanism to digitize my 1000+ cassette collection. I am quite happy that my search has reached an important milestone with TASCAM CC-222MKII (referred to as CC-222 henceforth).
CC-222 is presently the only equipment that converts music from tape to CD directly. Since it has autoreverse tape deck and an automatic track creation ... Read More
