Great for the unitiated, but What a Diff'rence a Day Makes is the icon.

If you only get one album of Miss D, this is the one I would recommend. It gives a great selection of some of the best of her work throughout her career. It starts off with some of her early blues and ballad numbers recorded for Mercury in the 40's. The first number Evil Gal Blues has a great piano introduction by Milt Buckner with a surprising round of descending chords. Though she was anointed the queen of the blues, when I listen to a lot of her early blues numbers, they can sound pretty repetitive. ... Read More
