Editorial Review: Primal follows the story of Jen Tate, a modern woman who must face the demons of an immortal universe to discover her own supernatural origin. As Jen, players learn to unleash and control four different demon-fighting forms, each possessing unique skills and attributes, as they are immersed in a fantasy world joined inextricably with our own. This is not a world of goblins and barbarians, or any other such fantasy fare. Within the dark realms of Primal's alternate universe, gamers find themselves involved in an intricate and realistic story--enhanced by several subplots and twists--that makes them question the fine line between fantasy and reality. Primal is a story-driven game of exploration, combat, and puzzles, presented through the experiences of Jen and Lewis, a present-day human couple drawn into discord by eternal forces. While gameplay revolves around the events of the story, there are many personal revelations and surprises for the characters along the way. Essential to the game's core is the unusual and evolving relationship between Primal's two main playable characters, Jen and her companion Scree, a gargoyle. Players can switch between Jen and Scree at any time and will be required to assess and utilize each character's strengths to succeed in various areas of the game. Primal is set within a huge environment featuring four expansive realms surrounding a central hub. A dynamic loading system allows for uninterrupted gameplay between levels, and magical portals act as links and windows into other worlds. Additional technological achievements include seamless character morphing between Jen's human and demon forms, extravagant particle effects, and environmental effects such as fog and mist.
The time has come for all to face their inner demons. As we look into our own darkness and pass through that of others, we will collide into worlds that inextricably blend with our own. Worlds so convincing, that you'll be pressed to decipher which is real and which is the nightmare. And the power to move on lies only within.

Rating: - Very original
I really enjoyed this game. The voices of the characters were so well done. It had many puzzles that were quite challenging. The main character could take on four forms with different skills for each. The other main character, a gargoyle, who was quite interesting. He helped her solve puzzles and collect energy. Each scene was beautifully detailed. The only drawn back, there were a few glitches in the game. You may get stuck in a spot and have to restart that level again. The main frustration ... Read More

Rating: - lame
game tries to be "cool" but falls way flat. the main girl voice actor is incredibly annoying, its the first time i ever skipped cut scenes i hadnt seen before. her dialog is just so lame, they tried sooo hard to make this game "hip", but ended up being about as hip as my grandmother doing the macarena
Rating: - Primal: Average but beautiful.
Primal at its heart is a run-of-the-mill linear adventure. It's obvious the developers were going for the interactive movie experience. The gameplay in Primal is average but it's the story and the beautifully animated cut-scenes and quality voice acting that elevate this game from cookie-cutter adventure to an entertaining game. This is one of the best looking games on the playstation 2, with character models and animation unequaled by any other PS2 game. In fact the character models in this game are ... Read More
Rating: - One of my Favorites
I just reordered this games since I wore out my old one, playing and replaying it. It does what videogames to best (for me) which is that it takes you to an interesting world/worlds with amazing visuals, challenging puzzles, a good story-line, exciting action and characters that you really like.
I had a lot of affection for Jenn and her little gargoyle companion, Scree. You can tell a lot of care went into the design and creation of Primal.
