Editorial Review: Child actor Claude Jarman Jr. won a Special Oscar for his lead performance as the boy hero of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' novel, which concerns a lad's love of a fawn in the post-Civil War era. Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman are memorable as his parents, their emotions divided in the aftermath of so much tragedy and their lives affected by the boy's passion for his yearling. Clarence Brown (National Velvet) directed this 1946 heartbreaker, which will not leave a dry eye in the room. A handsome, leisurely drama at more than two hours, shorter versions simply don't cut it. --Tom Keogh

Rating: - The Yearling
Good movie for the time, but not the same as the book. However, enjoyed the movie - a little sad but it teaches a lesson.
Rating: - Pleasant, with drama, life in the country.
A pioneer family's life in the woods in the 1800's. A lot of drama, some adventure, bears, deer, a fawn, praying the crops will survive, and some humor. I like country life, and liked seeing the way it was growing up on a farm in the Florida woods. Rating: - A story about the curse
Should be banned from children and adult viewing alike. There was no redeeming factor to this movie. It magnifies all the negative aspets of life because of the curse brought about because of original sin. I threw the DVD away as soon as I watched it and wished I hadn't watched it.
There is enough misery in life without watching movies about it. If you want good animal stories watch the Lassie movies and early TV programs. They provide an answer to life's challenges not a review of ... Read More
Rating: - HUH ?!
Does it strike anybody else kind of odd that the DVD cover art for this film features a mountainous background ? The entire story is set in Florida !?
Rating: - My Birthday Review
I chose to review this film on my birthday because it's one of my favorites.
I love the way the little boy becomes so fondly atatched to his baby deer.
It's so beautiful and so sweet. It's so happy, the fun and tenderness with his new pet.
It is sad too that both the little boy and the deer part in such a way.
But at least the time they spent together was wonderful and brilliantly filmed.
And that's my birthday review.....
