Editorial Review: As he did with Spinal Tap, Christopher Guest has the uncanny ability to perfectly mock and pay tribute to a music sub-culture. This time around, he spoofs the folk revival scene of the 1960s that spawned the Kingston Trio, Limeliters, and Peter, Paul & Mary with a movie about the reunion concert of fictitious groups Mitch & Mickey, the Folksmen, and the New Main Street Singers. Mitch & Mickey's romance-themed duets sound more earnest than campy, though it's hard not to laugh at the autoharp solo on "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow." The real highlights belong to tracks by the hilarious Folksmen, whose repertoire somehow included a goofy song about the Spanish Civil War ("Skeletons of Quinto"), a harmonizing take on the Stones' "Start Me Up," and a tune seemingly about a train wreck in a coal mine ("Blood on the Coal"). Simply hilarious. --Jason Verlinde

Rating: - The best movie ever made
I'm sure some people would want to argue their views about Citizen Kane or Throne of Blood, but those movies didn't make me laugh as much as this one did. Bonus features include great outtakes, and you can watch the Town Hall concert as it was broadcast originally. All the actors are top shelf, and the music is so good, you'll want to buy the soundtrack (which has a lot of great material that is not in the movie.) Every time I watch this film, I wonder if Mitch will make it back on time for the ... Read More
Rating: - Talented Performers
After receiving a DVD three pack of Christopher Guest's Mockumentaries, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show and Mighty Wind, I was keen to hear more of these talented performers who form the core of Christopher Guest's films.
The talent of the actors as song writers and performers is amazing. You would be forgiven if you thought these people were really professional singers.
The three groups represented, The Main St Singers, The Folksmen and Mitch and Mickey are presented as ... Read More
Rating: - A Mighty Wind is Blowing!!
If you enjoyed the movie A Mighty Wind you will enjoy the cd as you can hear the songs in their entirety. I do wish they had included the Catheter Song, other than that oversight, the cd is great fun to listen to.
Rating: - Spectacular!
I am listening to this CD for the third time today. Every song on it is great with some hilarious vocals and great harmonizing. The Mitch & Mickey songs are just well written and could have been sung and written by real folkies instead of two funny people.
Rating: - Better than it has a right to be...
The first time I heard this recording was in my brother's car. The songs without a reference (the movie) were fun to listen to, a bit silly (Eat at Oe's) but beautifully written and produced. Only then did he tell me this was from the Parody genius's of Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy, Michael McKeon, and Harry Shearer. We watched the movie that night and it was a fun and surpising experience. The music just seems to stick with you though and I went out the next day to get the album.
I have never ... Read More
