Sony's stylish, slender DVP-FX700 offers a seven-inch widescreen TFT liquid-crystal display whose 16:9 aspect ratio matches that of your favorite feature films. Built-in stereo speakers offer virtual surround for a more spacious effect, and the unit plays CDs, too--leave the screen down, plug headphones in, and crank it up (but not too loud). A handy remote control affords ready access to the device from up to several feet away, and its brushed-aluminum finish lends an air of refined elegance.
The DVP-FX700's three-hour lithium-ion battery ensures uninterrupted viewing of all but the longest movies, and an included AC power adapter lets you watch from the hotel room--you can even plug it into a TV on the road or at home through the unit's minijack S-video and composite-video outputs.
Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output (through a .125-inch minijack-to-Toslink optical cable, not supplied) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. The outputs are switchable as AV inputs, too, in case you want to use the screen as a monitor for a camcorder or video-game device.
The model measures a mere 7.4 inches in length and 5.9 inches wide and a mere inch thick (without the battery). Headphones are not included.

i wish you had a zero stars rating. after reading other ratings by consumers on this product, i see that i'm not alone in my low opinion. i purchased this for over $[...]. that didn't even include a car cord, which i had to buy separately. soon after i bought it, i bought a cheap initial dvd player to use when i didn't want to worry about hurting the sony. the initial dvd player has been dropped, misused and used constantly. the initial still works like a dream. other than one of the times it was ... I purchased a Sony portable DVD player this time last year. Big mistake. It stopped working shortly after the 90 day warranty and Sony would do nothing but let me pay them for a repair/exchange. So I paid for an exchange + Shipping. Then the replacement they sent (same model) would not even turn on. Then they offer to let me pay to send that one back too (months have transpired because they do not send a replacement until they have logged in and assessed the one you send back). Rating: - Broken after 1 year
Obviously, I hate this product because it broke after exactly 1 year. My friends got it for my wedding in April '04, and in April '05 the DC 9V input won't accept a charge. Therefore, I can't charge the battery and can't use anything to get it recharged, or even operational. Since it's been 1 year, the warranty is up (plus I don't have a receipt since it was a gift), and it will cost me $392 to send it to Sony and get it fixed. Unbelievable. Sony sucks. Rating: - Bad product.
I brought this product from amazon about half year ago and buy warrenty from third party,which amazon offer. This machine freezing up half way of playing dvd and I tried to call NEW company to fix it and just find out telephone just a fax # and email can not connect it it totally disaster. And Amazon not back up NEW com also. I very disappointed with Amazon after been good customer. Stay way from this product. Next time I will only buy from best buys.
Rating:  - boostaroo does fix volume problem
as noted in other reviews, maximum volume is not loud enough when using this player on an airplane with inexpensive noise-cancelling headphones. Based on a prior review and recommendation, I bought the Boostaroo amplifier from cyberguys.com for about $30 including shipping. While I haven't used the amplifier in the air yet, it clearly does amplify volume with no discernable loss of sound quality. This product makes a major disappointment in the sony dvd player disappear.
