Editorial Review: GRITTY MASTERPIECE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF BAD LIEUTENANT AND KING OF NEW YORK! Long available in incomplete or full screen editions, Abel Ferrara's 1979 cult classic THE DRILLER KILLLER here receives its definitive presentation, accompanied by three of the director's never-previously-released short films from the 1970s. THE DRILLER KILLER stars Ferrara himself (under the pseudonym 'Jimmy Laine') as Reno Miller, an artist being driven mad by the pressures of New York life who takes to the streets and begins murdering derelicts with a power drill. Although Ferrara intended to make a film in the tradition of THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, the end result bore an even greater resemblance to Martin Scorsese's TAXI DRIVER. THE DRILLER KILLER is an indispensable addition to the collection of anyone interested in 1970s horror, the work of Abel Ferrara, or off-the-wall cinema. DISC ONE: DRILLER KILLER Letter-boxed version. Audio Commentary by Able Ferrara. French & Spanish Subtitles. Trailer. Porto-pack Commercial. DISC TWO: THE EARLY SHORT FILMS OF ABEL FERRARA: COULD THIS BE LOVE (1973). THE HOLD UP (1972). NICKY'S FILM (1971). Trailer - NINE LIVES OF A WET PUSSY. Audio Commentary by Abel Ferrara.

Rating: - Eerie, pulsating, and ooze-dripping.
After seeing the amazing "Ms. 45" I knew I had to check out Abel Ferrera's other grungy-city-urban-alienation-causing-insanit-and-murder flick. Abel's acting as the main character is beyond outstanding: he literally becomes the character, who loses his mind from stress living as a struggling artist in NYC and goes on a killing spree with a power rill. Ferrera's direction is also excellent: the eerie cinematography, in particular the repeated motif of the buffalo eye of his portrait, is haunting and ... Read More
Rating: - If he'd put on a suit and didn't mumble, he could've had De Palma's career
Yeah, and? Exactly. I'd love to see what Abel Ferrara's illustrious contemporaries could create with the meager budgets he works with.
You've already read several reviews telling you what this film is about. You don't require another. I love this film for its images. I love Abel Ferrara for his sense of daring recklessness. His films are dangerous because they leave you grasping and gasping and left to work out their meanings on your own time. I love Abel Ferrara because no other filmmaker ... Read More
Rating: - Not that good
Not Ferrara's cult classic film, not a good horror film. But worth watch at least once,
I liked the extra first films on 2nd disc of the limited edition, but i think Richard Kern short films represents the New York scene on the end the 70's better than Ferrara did on this film, if you know what i mean.
Rating: - was director on meds when commentary was done?
was the guy drunk, under heavy medication--or was it done post lobotomy?
hey, I have nothing against booze--or whatever it is that people do; that's their own business...but if you're going to do commentary on a film that people have paid money for...how about making it coherent, buddy? how about making some sense? how about better sound and cleaner/clearer sentences?
is that too much to ask?
the slurring, mumbling thing went out with Brando (& I respect Brando's acting ... Read More
Rating: - Decent, sleazy ArtSlasher... Best Commentary Ever...
I am sure you are all aware of the history surrounding Mr. Ferrara's
first proper film the 'Driller Killer'. It has achieved most of it's
notoriety due to it's distinction of being one of the first so-called
'Video Nasties'- films banned by the UK due to lurid content. From what
I have gathered after watching the majority of these 'Video Nasties',
is that this was some sort of backlash and hysteria by the moral
police. If you go into this film expecting gore-filled mayhem ... Read More
