I had one of these items prior and it worked well. The upgraded one for an LCD works just as well and I love it.

I am sure a professional or one versed in color management issues can use this device and achieve good results. People just getting into this should be careful. I followed the instructions and now my monitor puts a definite blue cast to everything. So obviously, I did something wrong - but finding out what isn't easy. Rating: - An amazing tool, comprehensive yet extremely easy to use!
I have been a serious amateur for the better part of 6 years now, and the idea of getting a properly calibrated monitor started nagging at me a couple years ago, when my hobby became a serious thing. At that moment I considered the original Spyder, but never got to buy one; I was confident the optic methods on screen were enough. Rating:  - only works with one to one monitor/video card ratio!!!
I had a lot of trouble with this because I was running an auxillary screen from my laptop and had two screens. This product DOES NOT work if you have two screens running off of one video card. Now that I have a desktop with a one to one video card to monitor ration I have had no problems. It calibrates well and is easy to use.

What a difference! After calibrating my monitor with Spyder 2, I actually see on screen what my output (photo print) will look like. I'm very pleased with the product and with the bonus, Pantone Colorist software.
