Rapper and producer Lyrics Born was part of the fertile Bay Area underground rap scene for a decade before he finally dropped his debut Later That Day in 2003. That highly-anticipated album was really good, if not a little samey. See, LB. had made his rep largely by collaborating with others, spicing up tracks by the likes of Blackalicious, Tommy Guerero, and Poets of Rhythm. When it came to crafting his own album on his own time, he didn't fall flat by any means, but something of that sense of crazy urgency was lacking. And here we have a remix album that trumps the original, showing that Lyrics Born was truly meant to work with others. He's got quite a crew helping him too, DJ Spinna, , KRS-One, and Dan the Automator among them. It's fun, weird, and flows really well despite the crazy eclectic style. Hooray. --Mike McGonigal
This remix album of the critically acclaimed and self-produced "Later That Day...", contains five new songs and eight remix tracks that are similar to the originals only in name. The record is a fresh collection of Lyrics Born's signature blend of funk, R&B, rock, reggae, and soul. The album features stellar collaborations with artists such as KRS-One, Evidence, Casual, and E-40, with production by Dan the Automator (Handsome Boy Modeling School, Gorillaz), DJ Shadow, Morcheeba, Chief Xcel (Blackalicious), Jumbo the Garbageman (Lifesavas), and Young Einstein (Ugly Duckling).

Rating: out of 5 stars - more of the same !@#$...
i don't really have anything else to add to what everyone has already said in these reviews, but i wanted to push this album up towards 5 stars. another quality quannum album, thanks again for the good work.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Same ! @#$ Different Day
In general, I dislike remixes. If the product was good to begin with, why mess with the formula? When LATER THAT DAY dropped, I thougt that it was a solid album, albeit a bit disappointing. Lyrics Born just generates greater expecations. When I heard that a remix album was coming, my thinking was along the lines of, "Eh..."

However, SAME ! @#$ DIFFERENT DAY is the rare remix album that improves upon the original. And not just by a little bit, this is a vastly superior product. ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Rediculous
My expectations are alwasy high when listening to anything from the Quannum crew. Lyrics Born does not come even close to dissappointing.
He does sound a bit similar to Gift of Gab when he rhymes, but maybe a tad more eccentric. Beyond that, Lyrics Born can also sing a bit too, offering up a sort of blues influenced croon. The best part is, his crooning actually works really well. I'd go as far to say that if he was introduced to me as a croon, not a rapper, I'd buy it.
There are two ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - The best of Lyrics Born
This one is better than later that day. Better than the latryx album. By far the best thing LB has done to date. The beats fit really well with his laid back style, which is as laid back as ever. LB just sounds so cool. I think thats why I listen to him. Hes got the best voice, second to MF Doom, and he raps like hes in the room talking to you. Its good stuff. I highly recommend this album to anyone.

Rating: out of 5 stars - tight
cool cd, didn't know what to expect, lil funk mixed with hip hop, deeper lyrics. the actual instruments add to the whole mix, guitars, bass, digital drum beats and keys i guess, kinda has an old school feel at times, this album is uni que
