Strife combines the Doom game created with the Doom engine, now dwarfed by the new Quake engine, with a role playing game. Character development separates this game from other doom clones. Supports up to 8 player multiplayer over a network. Encompasses 30 massive levels and 200 virtual square miles. Strife will certainly be the last game to use the Doom engine.

This is a much more thoughtful game than the other Doom-era shooters. It was perhaps too far ahead of it's time, and therefore underappreciated by people who just wanted to blow apart Martians and demons.
Frankly, it reminds me of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion in the way that the world of Strife is alive with hostile and non-hostile NPCs. Worth checking out!

This game is probably the best FPS i've ever played. It was released in 1996 i believe. I was young.. like 7th or 8th grade maybe, but I loved the game. It uses the DOOM engine, but includes RPG elements. Not all areas/enemies are hostile, and will only attack you if YOU attack them or townsfolk first. This RPG Game is unlike most other Doom type games. It is not totally linear. Your decisions determine the final outcome of the game. (There are three possible endings for this game.) And unlike Doom style games, you can return to previously conquered areas to retrieve items you may not have been able to carry before. (Like Med-Paks, ammo, etc.) There are even different ways of entering the same areas. (Without using cheat codes.)
